We dined at Mariscos Sayulita Nayarit tonight. We arrived around 6:15 and the place was almost empty, but we were seated quickly. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The color and decor make you feel like you're near the ocean. The brightness opens up the space (even in that weird booth nook they have). Our server was kind and looked after us well. We didn't really ask her much, as we were kind of overwhelmed by the massive menu. And it is massive. There is so much on the menu, but most of it looks similar. I wonder if they could trim it down to basics with sauce options or something. Giant menus like that are just wild. I didn't get a picture of the menu, unfortunately. The chips and salsa were amazing. The salsa was a roasted, deeper red than any other salsa we've had at a restaurant, but it also managed to be bright and refreshing. It and the chips, which were thinner than normal but not as thin as Chuy's, were top notch. Our margaritas were also delicious. Flavored well and they came out exactly as we wanted (on the rocks and mine with no salt). When my partner wanted to order a different kind of appetizer and main, I opted to get shrimp tacos so I could try their range. Our appetizer was half great. I'm not sure of the name, but it was fried fish and calamari with guacamole. Well, the menu said guacamole, but it didn't come with it. We didn't ask, though. The fried fish bites were awesome. They had an excellent crunch and flavor. The calamari was, I'm sad to say, one of the worst I've had. Chewy, strange coating, and all small rings. Strange indeed. My shrimp tacos came out with the appetizer. I would recommend not going for their simple dishes. My shrimp were clearly pre-peeled, frozen, and unseasoned. The portion was good, but give these to your unadventurous and very boring food friend lol. My partner's main dish was great. It was some type of fish diablo. The plate was beautiful, though odd when we talked it out. Nothing on the menu said it had shrimp on it, but it came with a few. I ate them, and they were so much better than my tacos. He loved the fish and the sauce as well as the rice. The dish also came with a salad that was large chunks of lettuce, a slice of tomato, a slice of cucumber, and 2 orange slices. It was odd because we would have preferred it chopped so you could easily eat it with the fish, but I definitely ate the oranges as a dessert. It also came with both fries and bread. He said the bread was excellent (light and airy). The fries were great to me, but they were clearly the frozen seasoned ones from a large food distributors. Actually, most of the food was probably frozen, but I think that can be well done. We were both surprised that all of this food was under $70! We think maybe the margaritas were on happy hour.
Really, just go here and pick something wild. Order something you've never seen on a menu before. That's what I'll do...
Read moreHave had my eye on Mariscos Sayulita Nayarit but it’s on the other side of town and I would pass three places I enjoy just to get out there. Today I took the drive out there so I could check them off my list and I now regret waiting so long. This place is clean, bright, nicely decorated, and the staff is extremely friendly even with my poor Spanish. I took a seat at the bar and Elisa (sp) took my beer order and all of a sudden a server brought me a plate I didn’t order (it was complimentary). The dish was called Tostada de Ceviche Marlin and it’s marinated Marlin on a tortilla shell with diced tomato and celery. I gave it a try and it is fresh with a light “pickled” flavor, and with the garnishment is really quite good. The chips and salsa was served and I really liked the salsa, mild, a nice flavor, and you can tell it’s made in-house.
This menu can take you a bit to study and while Nayarit style seafood is the emphasis, there are many traditional Mexican dishes available too. After watching dishes being served to various tables (that looked incredible) I decided on the Fajitas Sayulita which one of the waitresses gave me a two thumbs-up! This consisted of bacon wrapped grilled shrimp, ribs, fajita steak & chicken, along with traditional sides. My first bite was some of the chicken with the onions & peppers on a tortilla and it was a “WOW” moment…great flavor and very tender. Loved the bacon wrapped shrimp which were also filled with queso cheese…these are addicting. Everything on the platter was great…some of the best fajita flavors around. Overall this dish is a real standout and I am looking forward to trying some of the seafood offerings. ALL of the servers were great answering questions and making me feel welcome. For me…this spot is well worth the trek across town to enjoy some authentic...
Read moreHoly Cow.. if you haven't checked this place out yet, you must! It's a mexican seafood and grill, and boyyyy, let me tell you about it. Its very spacious and bright, HUGE menu, great staff, big portions, and flavor out of this world!!! There were very unique options on the menu, tons of seafood, but traditional items too if seafood is not your thing. Best crab legs I have EVER had, and that's saying something! Brandon got a seafood stuffed pineapple with this creamy cheese sauce that was mouth watering! They know what they are freaking doing! There are prices both high and low, so you can stay simple, or go big. I asked for a big to go container for my crab legs, and she was like "I gotchu", and she sure did! They were prepared with those big aluminum pans you bake a dang casserole in to pack up your big items...that alone was impressive lol. We were like a kid in a candy shop, just so in awe with the whole experience. With it being Christmas there wasn't anything else open and I wasn't even that hungry, but when I saw their lights in the midst of all the darkness that surrounded it, I was drawn to it like a moth and we decided to stop anyways. It's a little tucked back, so could be easy to miss, but I'm so glad we found them. I think mellow mushroom used to be there by the Walmart on Rutherford, and I'm glad they shut down and these guys swooped in!!! It was a fantastic way to close out the busy holiday with an amazing dinner and my amazing man! I can't...
