March 2020: So for the first time in two months I dined in a restaurant. Yup...sat down and was served by Kara who is a pleasure to talk to and made it a joy to be out again. Now this is not the first time I have dined at Primrose Table, probably my favorite restaurant in all of Murfreesboro. I couldn't resist and got the Char Grilled Lamb Chops for an appetizer...the chimichurri and labna (yogurt cheese) really enhances the flavor of the lamb.
For dinner I went with the Ribs and yes...I selected garlic mashed potatoes as a side and they were perfect. One sure sign ribs are cooked correctly is when you can flip over the rack and easily draw the bones out without any meat attached. In this case...all of them were easily extracted. The Chef served a Apple Butter BBQ sauce...kind of a head scratcher here. Was it good...absolutely especially if you love Apple Butter but it lacked something to make it more of a BBQ Sauce versus a condiment. Gave the ribs an interesting flavor, and they were tasty with or without the Apple Butter BBQ Sauce.
December 2019: Finally got to try out Primrose Table Friday evening...and I am so glad I did!!! First off...this is a chef owned one of a kind spot that really does live up to their claim "the best of fine dining and casual hospitality". I sat at the bar and was greeted by Kat, Amber, and Dustin who was on his (making) 25th Old Fashioned of the night. I ordered a Shiner Bock and they have a solid selection of beer, wine, and of course mixed drinks. I was brought a small cast iron pan of Rosemary Beer Bread and soft butter, this bread is extraordinary and I recommend enjoying this bread without butter...it is that good.
I decided to try the Char-Grilled Lamb Chops based on the recommendation of Kat along with her recommendation on how to enjoy them. The chops were perfectly cooked and so full of flavor, but when combined with the chimichurri, labna, pistachio, crispy eggplant this appetizer was "over the top"!!!
Next on the agenda I wanted to try a cup of the Italian Wedding soup w/Meatballs. I'm not an expert on Italian Wedding Soups but I was impressed with this offering and really enjoyed the pork meatballs in the rich broth. Dipping a piece of the Rosemary Beer Bread into the broth...YUMMY!!!
Finally (I thought) I decided on a meal and went with the Shrimp and Linguine in Vermouth Cream Sauce which was a combination of gulf shrimp, pear tomatoes, passion fruit, and a vermouth cream sauce. First bite you find a very unusual medly of flavors with the vermouth and the passion fruit but it works. The shrimp were firm and good, but if I were to have a choice the shrimp blackened or grilled would have really made this a solid dish. The sauce basically overwhelmed the shrimp so when having a bite of everything you really didn't know the shrimp was there.
By now I am full...but then Amber stealthily slides the dessert menu to me and with a sly grin tells me there was a Butterscotch CrÚme Brûlée available. I'm a huge CrÚme Brûlée fan...and can't remember if I have ever had butterscotch so I decided to push the limits of consumption. I am extremely glad I did...this Butterscotch CrÚme Brûlée was perfect. A nice crisp crust and the butterscotch cream melted in your mouth!!!
I also saw a number of appetizers and meals being enjoyed and it all looked great, and I didn't see anyone complain seeing as the plates were empty. Service was solid, everyone took great care of me and I must say based on everything I enjoyed the overall cost of the meal was great. Highly recommend this spot and I will be back soon to try...
Read moreTonight, I dined with one of my favorite humans at Primrose Table and it did not disappoint. We both had Old Fashioneds with different specialty bourbons. We shared the crispy fish cake to start and the butterscotch creme brulee to finish. Between those, I had the chicken en croute and she had the Woodford steak tips. My meal was delicious, and I look forward to eating the rest of it. I did eat all of those Brussels sprouts, though. The chicken was super moist and almost Thanksgiving-y with the delicious cranberry sauce. The sausage tart reminded me of a super fancy breakfast treat I've had at potlucks, and the mashed potatoes were creamy but firm enough for my liking. Her steak tips were cooked perfectly to her liking, and the asparagus was wonderful. She also had the mashed potatoes with her meal. All in all, this is definitely a fancy spot we'll go to occasionally (either with each other or others). It is a bit pricey for many, but the food is definitely worth it. Foodies come forth and lick your spoon clean đđđ
*Edited to add additional 5 star review from 3/32/2022: You know I've already done a review about Primrose Table , but have you been yet? If you haven't, I don't know why. Get yourself over there!
Tonight I dined with a new friend! She invited me out because she wanted to meet me and talk about food and drink and life, and boy did we do that! I am so thankful for our kind server, Aileen, who kept my water filled for the whole 2.5 hours we chatted about everything. Yes, I was sitting with the owner, but I think Aileen is probably an amazing server for everyone. She was bright, helpful, and the right amount of friendly and attentive. We started with the Korean BBQ Stuffed Potato Skins. Oh man. I can see why these are the top selling appetizer. They are so good. I love the fusion going on here, and this was a great nod to the delicious Korean food I love. Of course I found out the chef loves Korean food. This is evident in this dish for sure. They also give a dollar for each one sold to Second Harvest. I love places that give back! Next I had the shrimp and grits. I was a bit skeptical when it came out because of all the sauce, but that sauce is there for a reason. You can drink it. I think I might have had a spoonful or two of just the sauce... On purpose. The shrimp was cooked wonderfully, and the grits (which can often feel like a flat and flavorless base) were seasoned well and had great flavor. Up to this point, my meal was actually GF, too! I skipped the bread that is pictured and saved my barley risk for dessert: lemon blueberry bread pudding. This dessert was divine. It was just the right amount of both lemon and blueberry, and it was not dry like some bread puddings are. You know those places that drown the bread pudding in sauce because it's already dry? Not here. It was moist and delicious. Also pictured is her strawberry dessert that I completely forgot the name of... I didn't try it, but she said she loves it! It's hard to pick a star dish here. They were seriously all so good.
And my dining companion? Wonderful. I had a delightful time chatting and laughing about tons and tons of things. We're definitely going to have another night out in May but try somewhere new!
Who are your foodie friends? Are you making more foodie friends? They're the best kind to have!
Of course, remember to bring your own takeaway containers. Save the restaurant some money and yourself some trips to the street with...
Read moreSince opening, Primrose has been my husband and I's go-to date night spot. The food has always been fabulous and until this past Saturday night, we have always had wonderful service. Often I request Hank for our reservation. Hank is an incredible sever! On Saturday, 9/16, as we were there to celebrate my husbandâs birthday, we experienced the worst dining experience, possibly ever. I made the mistake of not requesting Hank, and boy do I regret that! We had a young lady named Jordyn, and to be honest she was cold and seemed inconvenienced by us from the moment she greeted our table. We assumed maybe she was having a bad night so we all just let her demeanor slide. Several items went wrong. Drinks took forever... when asked for salt and pepper she brought us two peppers. I ordered a pear martini and received a lemon drop martini. No dirty glasses or dishes were removed from table. A friends burger was brought out burnt to crisp. We did send the burger back but did not make a fuss about any of the other things. and THEN, the experience took a turn for the worse. A friend went to order another drink... AS the server is going to write his order down (his wife jokingly says, " you're driving", and the server stopped and made a scene and questioned him like he was on trial. Really? The wife said, I was just joking it's fine, he is fine, regardless, I will drive. She rushes away. Comes back and refused to serve him. WHAT? Why? We were stunned and sitting in complete shock. She completely misjudged and mishandled the situation. we ask to speak with a manager and the chef came out very much so trying to be intimidating, doing nothing to help the situation. Then I learn the owner is there... we ask to speak with her. I explained the situation to her in HIGH HOPES she would rectify the situation. After all, this is one of my very favorite places to dine. However, much to my disappointment she did not. I am truly shocked and appalled at the entire situation, mostly at the way it was handled from a management level. There were multiple opportunities for this situation to divert paths, though it did not. I had just asked for dessert menu to celebrate my husbands and never got the opportunity to sing to him with friends due to a servers misjudgment and lack of professionalism. Regretfully, we will not be returning to...
