A bagel, like a flower— So fragile, so tasty once consumed. You have not known a bagel until it has known you.
After eating at boro bagels, you develop a deep longing for the bread and cream cheese that once grazed your taste buds.
Okay. Here is my review:
The food was fantastic. I had the Asiago jalapeño bagel with chive cream cheese, and my friend had the cinnamon bagel with cinnamon (or maybe honey?) cream cheese. Mine, the Asiago bagel, was just the right texture—a slight crunch on the outside with that beautiful, soft, dense texture on the inside. They also put a lot of cream cheese on the bagel which was awesome because that is not how they normally do it in the south. These stingy southerners will jip you of your cheese fix. The south is not a good place to be a cheese addict.
No, they do not taste exactly like NY bagels, because it is not NY. But I have to say, these are the closest I have had to NY bagels down here and that is a huge accomplishment. Even without comparing, they are delicious bagels. We have needed this in Murfreesboro for so long. I was so excited when I saw this was opening up and I was definitely not disappointed.
Service was okay, but that is because it is the soft opening so they still have logistics to work out. I can definitely tell they were trying their best.
The atmosphere—not so great. Decor is severely lacking and the choice of the bold blue next to the white brick looks cheap. Even if they would have just chosen a dark green for the logo and benches, or perhaps a brown, it would have looked a lot better. The movie posters are also an odd decor choice.
Although, it is authentic to their “NY bagels” promise! I am from LI, NY, and most bagel places looked something alike to this one. Ugly? Yeah—although, nostalgic. And that is nice :)
Overall, I am extremely excited that we not only have a bagel place in the boro now, but the best bagel place I have had in the south....
Read moreLiving in NYC for my whole life and recently moving to Tennessee. There’s two things I miss dearly, Pizza and Bagels. New York might have a lot of issues. However Pizza and Bagels is something they do right. When I heard of a place that called themselves a bagel shop with NY bagels. I was excited to give them a try. My first time here at Boro Bagel, I waited in line for 10 mins which is expected in a newly opened business. While I waited on line, I noticed one of the employees working the grill with no gloves wiping his mouth and face several times touching the food. As well as touching the garbage bin and then touching the food again. To top that off one of the employees recommended him to put gloves on and he denied it. For a brand new restaurant to ignore health codes is alarming. As for the food and atmosphere. The bagels aren’t made in house and lack the flavor of a homemade fresh soft warm NY bagel. When they served my bagel they didn’t even cut the bagel in half which is basic knowledge of NY bagels. As for the environment, there are a couple words that come to mind, Cold , Lifeless, unauthentic. I would love to feel the experience when walking in and they failed to bring that. I will be back to give them a second chance and see if they can adjust and adhere to the concerns I’ve...
Read moreDelicious BYO sandwich. This morning I needed something different and as Boro Bagels opening near my home I decided to try it. It is bright and clean and an okay atmosphere. Nothing fancy. I was hoping it would be a place I could start going for breakfast and to work on days when I need a break from my home office. It's not really that kind of place and that's okay. The food makes up for it. I find it hard to find a good breakfast sandwich but Boro Bagels has one. I ordered a bacon and cheese on toasted Asiago with lettuce and tomato and it is delicious. The bacon is solid and cooked well, not limp small slices you get some places. The veggies were fresh. Really good food. My only negative is feeling rushed at the counter despite no one being behind me. The person who took my order was definitely not from and though it is probably just a cultural difference, I do not like feeling rushed at any restaurant, especially one where I have never been to before and I am spending $25.00 on two breakfast sandwiches and a bag of day old bagels. Work on the friendliness aspect...
