I had heard a lot of great things about this barbecue place. Saw signs all over. Read the menu which extolled its great history of winning barbecue contests with perfect scores. However the reality was quite a bit different. I ordered a half a slab of ribs which I found to be somewhat dry. And a disappointing amount of meat on those ribs which was full of tiny little bone chips and burnt sections that were inedible. I compare this to the barbecue that I was used to eating in Phoenix Arizona which was far superior where a half slab of ribs was a very filling meal with delicious perfectly flavored smoked meat that fell off the bone. That was not the case here. I also ordered barbecued beans which to be quite honest were just a bean paste mush without much flavor at all... While these are the only items I had they seem like they should have been signature dishes and I quite honestly got the feeling that this restaurant is coasting on its past reputation. Pretty disappointing... And for the quality and quantity of what I received... wildly overpriced. The margarita was good though!

I have smoked hundreds of #s of pork shoulder and eaten my weight in it as well traveling on business. 17th Street pulled pork sandwich today was as good as any I have ever had. Perfectly moist and smokey, the bun was fresh with a generous portion of pork. The ribs have the perfect smoke with the expert tug off the bone texture. The brisket, cut from the flat, is moist, tender, smokey, excellent work!! I'm a fan of fried pickle spears over chips due to the high pickle to batter ratio. These pickle chips have a high pickle to batter ratio so they pass. Speaking of eating my weight on something, their bread pudding is the best! Even the sauce is perfect. The bread pudding is so good, I would drive here just for dessert!! Nachos also great, not mind blowing but still excellent. We tried all the sauces and all are worth taking home, which we did. I am so pleased to see 17th Street is still working at Championship level. Strong work, we'll be back!!

Still quite simply the best barbecue I've had anywhere, bar none. I have eaten, by sheer chance, at several restaurants that came in second and third to 17th Street in grand championship competitions. This was all before I had ever eaten at 17th Street. And living 7 miles away, that's just silly. But trust me, I've made up for lost time since then. Brisket that melts in your mouth. Pulled pork sandwiches so full of flavor that every bite is an experience. Babyback ribs, absolutely the best in the country. And voted that very Honor by the Food Network. The magic dust seasoning just makes everything that much better. I also recently discovered, that they have one of the best bowls of chili I've ever eaten. Mike Mills has crafted a barbecue Legend. If you're in the area visiting, go to the Murphysboro location. Best BBQ in the country. If you live in the area and you haven't been yet, stop reading this and go right now.

Really disappointing. We looked so forward to coming in today. We've been away for 5 years and recognize a lot had happened in this time. We often order online for delivery to Minnesota as a special treat. But since we were going to be in the area we thought it would be so amazing to stop in.

The menu has changed, which is fine, but I was dreaming of Pig Shoe (?) And learned it was gone. We ordered what we normally would order for appetizers: wings, pork rinds, onion strings. I've never had onion strings that were less stringy or dense. These onion strings did not get the memo that they were supposed to be good. Or strings, or onions or coated and deliciousness.

I don't know what is up with the barbecue sauce but it was really vinegary more than we've ever had it before. And the baked beans we love them but we got a huge bowl of beans that had practically no sauce. And we really didn't like the move to make everything a la carte. We recognize that this is a business model and I hope it works out well for 17th Street. We didn't like it.

Since I couldn't have the pig shoe I ordered the pork shoulder sandwich and I wanted to have Chow on the side. I don't know if the server just didn't want to disappoint us any further but they didn't tell us that there was no chow until the sandwich came out. Had I known there was going to be no chow I would not have ordered that sandwich. And maybe the server didn't want to disappoint us any further but it wasn't till after the sandwich came out with no chow, and I asked for the chow, but I learned that there was no chow.

Given the experience tonight, it's hard to say this, I'm not sure we're coming back. Not in the form of online orders for delivery or visits to the restaurant. I sure hope tonight was an off night but it left a poor taste in our...

I travel all the time for work and I happened to be near this area and the reviews made me have to try it. I've eaten BBQ all over this country and the ribs were tough and most of the sides were good but a VERY small amount. My wife enjoyed her pulled pork. I understand the cost of good meat has risen but I've had BBQ in other parts of Southern Illinois that were just as good at nowhere near these prices. I've had BBQ in St. Louis that tasted great at nowhere near these prices. I've eaten BBQ from the recent multiple award winning sauce maker in mid Illinois and the prices weren't this high. I've even had BBQ ribs in Chicago, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Lodi, CA during the same season and prices weren't this high for what you get.

If you're traveling this place is ok but be prepared for a BIG bill without much food. I even ordered desserts and again, not bad but the portions were seriously two bites for way more money than I was expecting.

The staff was great, food was hot but the portions are too small and the sides were just ok, the sweet mixed greens were very awkward. That may be a local thing but I've never had super sweet mixed greens before so this portion of my review is again for travelers.

I ordered my food to-go so I had no idea of the sizes and I love supporting local businesses. But for the money I spent I'll try another local BBQ restaurant and I hate to say I wouldn't...

I’m sorry but we ate the original restaurant before this one in Illinois. It wasn’t like the other place we ate at. I had pulled chicken, never seen anything like this hard to describe it was like very fine chopped chicken, almost like chicken dust I’m not kidding it was very fine chopped chicken with a vinegar after taste. My sweet potato was cut in half dry on top after sticking it with my fork it looked better barely melted the butter. I also had the garlic bread can’t tell you how bad that was,but it was pretty bad. My wife got the pork steak the first one was sent back it was so dry she couldn’t swallow it her sweet potato was worse than mine she didn’t eat the sweet potato, second pork steak that was brought out was thin and equally as dry. We were given a few slices of brisket now this was much better,we weren’t charged for the pork steak and was told that it was because they were training a new cook grill master I think he said. This wasn’t what we had on our first visit which was at a different location. We were travel to an event so she wanted to stop, because our first experience was excellent I can only say this much if Mike were alive he would be very disappointed in what we experienced today 05/24/24. I want to say I’m not trying to bash this establishment but the food we were served was the worst I’ve ever...
