I have been here twice and both times thoroughly enjoyed myself. The first time the kitchen was open. Excellent bruschetta. Also had the flatbread pizza. I like thick crust/Chicago style. This pizza was good enough to consider a dual commitment to both styles. Second visit, the kitchen was closed but my adult kids, wife and friends had a flight that included all on- tap beers currently available. The table of testers agreed the DIPA - Minor Threat (#3 on the website tap list) was hands down the favorite. It was a sunny pleasant day so we sat outside in the really comfortable patio area. This place is worth a detour as a destination.

Look, if you dig the motif of a lot of brew pubs where they've rehabbed some old, industrial building, used a minimalist approach to the interior design, and focus on a simple atmosphere in which consume delectable craft beers, you're gonna love this place like I did. I HIGHLY recommend the New England IPA. On the other hand, of you prefer loud, flashy, "modern" sports bar-type places, well then go somewhere else and sink your Bud Light. We good beer drinkers didn't really want you in our places anyway...

I've been a Contrarian by association, and for a good reason. Contrary blends the rustic heritage of beers from all over the globe while satisfying the modern pallete of America. Be it a Minor Threat Double IPA (DIPA), The Pearl City Pilsner, or the Passion fruit Orange and Guava sour (POG) there is sure something here to tempt the tastebuds of any enthusiast with an atmosphere as welcoming as Norm is in Cheers.

Nice brewery with a good selection of beers - looked like about 15-20 different types. We tried the Grand Cru, Iowa Pollinator, Apricot Wheat, and the Cream Ale. They were all pretty good beers - just nothing that really stood out. As far as I could tell, there was also no food available at all - not sure if this is an Iowa law, or they just don't have anything, but even popcorn would have been nice (I guess the attached Clamshell opens when it gets warmer, but it definitely wasn't warm when we were there). It's definitely worth a stop - we'd probably pop in again if we're in the area, and it would definitely be better when it's nice outside - looked like there was a nice patio...

Really sad. Came to Muscatine for a friend's wedding.Went on a Friday Excited for a brewery. Close at 9:00? what? kitchen close at 8? What? The whole wedding party was coming for a Social. As you know, socials are rare. Oh did I mention we were hungry?. We ordered from Geo Johns. PHENOMENAL ! They were the best service. Ok, let's get back to sad. The beers were really good. We would have had more beers and SPENT more money. And when we left, it was an unspoken middle finger. Feels like if you are not a local, not welcome. Sad, cuz the...
