South’s Best BBQ/Southern BBQ — Restaurant in Muscle Shoals

Our first time eating here and will not be back. Pulled pork was dry and flavorless. Buns were hard and had a best by date of 03/01/25. Today is 04/03/25. I called to complain and she told me that was the date the buns were made. Not true according to Flowers Foods website. Some of their products you can freeze up to 270 days. Doesn’t specify which products. I just know the buns we received weren’t eatable so my husband had to run to foodland to buy some. Which was a waste cause the bbq was too dry and flavorless to eat. I also noticed they don’t take kindly to negative reviews. This is a 100% honest review. I can’t comment on all their food but the pulled pork is just awful and definitely not worth the $60 I paid for the party pack. To the new owners. If you don’t like bad reviews, make better bbq. Cause your pulled pork tastes like you boil your meat instead...

This is why I don't trust online reviews. All these reviews must be from the owners and their family. My experience, horrible food hotdog bun was stale and crusty slaw was overly sweet bbq sandwich had same slaw and the meat was chopped to the consistency of pudding. I got my order to go, took 15 minutes to get and in that time my clothes absorbed the old grease smell from there. I would have returned my order, but it was too far to drive back, besides had spent most of my lunch break waiting on this mess. The stale hotdog bun really set me off, they had been holding on to that thing waiting on that to go order to dump that thing, knowing its not coming back. When I think of BBQ in the Shoals this is where I always land. I grew up eating South's Best (formerly Southern), every Saturday for as long as I can remember (when they served on Saturday). They always welcome me back every time I stop in. In fact, they actually served the BBQ at my engagement party because my wife and I love it so much.

In my opinion, they have THE BEST hamburger in the Shoals bar none. It is for sure my #1 pick for a burger. Crazy to think a BBQ place has a great burger, but I tell everyone about it. The rest of the food is awesome as well. From BBQ to Chicken Sandwiches and Sweet tea to Lemonade, you can not go wrong if you want a taste of what the Shoals has to offer.
