While visiting Napa, and specifically Napkins restaurant my sister and I were blessed to find this little gem on our girls weekend. Not only was the Cesar salad to die for, the green Apple martini’s were superb. But the HOLY GRAIL of Napkins restaurant wasn’t the fabulous food. No. It was Jay. Our Waiter, Jay, was what I would consider an angelic server sent to us from the almighty restaurant Gods. Not only was he extremely kind and attentive, he made our experience at this restaurant, just that- AN EXPERIENCE. Delivered food and drinks within minutes of ordering. Allowing us to eat without ever rushing us. Making us feel special by chatting and cracking jokes. In fact, I hope he receives a promotion soon. The restaurant gods would absolutely agree that he deserves it. I would have easily returned to Napkins for the food and spirits. But now, because of Jay, I will always recommend Napkins as a “5+ star must visit” place to eat while visiting Napa. Thank you, Jay! You are the best!

So so. We came for lunch. We sat inside and the atmosphere was very bland. Outdoor seating is available. Waiter was good but towards the end left us hanging for just a bit (very minor). The cocktail was a pineapple coconut rum drink and that part was good. The foam on top was coffee foam. Terrible combination. Make that coconut foam and you got a winner. Typical overpriced ($13) cocktails which always aggravates me. I had the crab sandwich and the crab was a little fishy and overall was just okay. Would not have again. ($18) Fries were good. Wife had shrimp wrap ($18) and she said it was good. I think those were two of the least expensive options. Basic steak burrito is $22. A little pricey for quality and atmosphere in my opinion. Overall staff was very friendly including the waiter. This place is not bad and there are many other items to try so your mileage and experience may vary. Good enough to at least try once.

The smoke in Napkins' fume cocktail, served in a little glass house whose door opens to let the smoke out, absolutely complemented the overall drink. It's bourbon infused with cloves and dried plums, with grilled pineapple and grapefruit. Such a lovely wintry drink. I went with two appetizers for my meal, starting with the kale salad that came with a light honey mustard vinaigrette, marcona almonds, and goat cheese. Also pomegranate seeds, which were a welcome surprise. Just the right texture and pops of flavor. I followed that with a nice dungeness crab cake and a delicious coleslaw served beneath. Tasted like leg meat of the crab for sure, and the crab flavor was not overpowered by the filling mixins, which is a plus. Not my favorite crabcake, but above average. The gold, bronze, and wood decor also made for a lovely ambience. Would definitely go back.

Napkins is everything you can hope for in a Napa Bar & Grill. We dined on an early Sunday night and the dining room and patio were bustling. However the bar was a little raucus with people watching Sunday Night Football. The service was impeccable, attentive but not intrusive, just the way it should be. Cocktails are very inventive and more importantly delicious - the Fume in particular comes with a dramatic presentation that serves both form and function. And the margaritas were well-balanced. For dinner we started with Crispy Calamari and Napkins Wings - both delicious. Our entrees included the short ribs, signature burger, and the filet with crab special, but the standout was the vegetable wellington - I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was honestly blown away and this dish is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Seriously, it’s that good!

Although our waitress was very good, 3 of the 4 entrees at our table were not very good. Two of us had the rib eye with mashed potato and veg. The mashed potatoes were good, but the steak was covered in a very garlicky glaze that inundated the plate. The potatoes were covered as were the veggies. It made everything rather mushy and just not that appetizing. Another member of our party had a shrimp linguini pasta dish. It too was overly garlicky. The last member of our party had the short rib and they were very good. The biggest problem was the general manager. We had an issue with a gift card situation that he was was unwilling to resolve in appropriate manner. It took the initiative of our server to resolve the situation in an appropriate way. The manager was totally unprofessional and we will not ever return.

Drinks, food and atmosphere was definitely 5 stars! We initially were trying to go to the rooftop bar but they were not accepting any walk ins so improvised by going to Napkins and we absolutely loved it. Came in for lunch on a Friday and we were the second group to be seated in doors so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Ordered some cocktails and split appetizers between all of us and they were all delicious, flavorful, and filling. Had truffle fries, the wings with Bleu cheese on the side, clam chowder, and the cheese and meat plate (forgot the name of the cheese). On top of quick service, always having our waters filled up, they were very friendly too. It was my friends birthday so they came out with complimentary dessert and the staff sang to her. Just a really great chill place. Would highly recommend.
