Thai Kitchen Restaurant — Restaurant in Napa

We came in on a casual weeknight and were immediately told that we would have to wait more than one hour for any food at all. I’m not sure what their problem is, only one chef or something, but it is unacceptable for a mostly empty restaurant to have any customers wait as such. A few minutes into service, I notice that nearly all the tables are void of food, except for some wine glasses. Not only was there a shortage of food, there was also a shortage of service. We received no welcome and drink requests. The waiters mostly hung around the back, just chillin’ with the chefs. The food was all bland and flavorless; definitely not worth the wait. The drunken noodles were all clumped together with no sauce, just coloring. The meat in it was a dry and tough substance. The red curry was watery and had a crapload of vegetables inside. Too much vegetables for such a small amount of curry. It is clear that these dishes were made in a hurry with many shortcuts taken to get them out at a not as ridiculous wait time. This was a really great experience. We were feeling lazy about cooking on a Monday night, but wanted something on the healthy side. Called to place an order at 7:52 PM and it was ready and packaged nicely by 8:04 PM.

The people were very friendly and kind. The food is also very good at a reasonable price point. We had the duck red curry, the green curry with tofu and the wonton soup. The duck doesn’t get masked. You got to taste how well cooked the duck is and enjoy it, while the vegetables on the curry were also cooked really well and super hearty. I feel like most of the time when I order wonton soup at other places, the broth is kind of an after thought. Not here. Everything is super well seasoned and flavorful. The meat in everything is well cooked, not over cooked. And everything tastes fresh.

I really like the chicken pad thai. Sadly, the service has gone downhill. I used to call in my orders for pickup with ease. But for the last several months, it’s impossible to get a call through. After numerous attempts at calling again tonight, I finally was placed on hold for 10 minutes. I decided to hang and try to order in the restaurant. I was asked to sit and waited another 10 minutes. When he finally came to take my order, he told me it would be 25 minutes. Why he didn’t tell me that before he sat me down is beyond me. I left and doubt I will be back.
