Giving this restaurant a 1 star because of how rude the owner was. He actually told me to go ahead and leave a 1 star review! He was so rude and argumentative when I brought to his attention about how my steak had more fat than meat. I regret convincing my friends to try this restaurant with me honestly. I wanted to try Katrina Latin bites and bar after learning they are sister restaurant to paris bistro which I’ve tried in the past and actually enjoyed their breakfast . I did not have the same experience at Katrina Latin bites and bar. First I have to say the ambience was nice, love the beautiful artwork on the walls however, the room temperature was cold, it seemed the heater was not working or was turned down to a very low temp. My friends and I kept our jackets on because of how uncomfortably cold it was. The waiter was nice but she was not very familiar with the menu and struggled with taking our order and getting our drinks, and food out in a timely fashion. She also brought out a dish we didn’t order and when we brought this to her attention , she didn’t apology, rather she asked us if we needed a box to take the food home. I ordered picanha steak based on the picture they had on their google website. This steak is expected to have small fat on top of the steak, but that was not the case with my order. My steak had 80% fat and 20 % meat. I immediately brought this to my waiter’s attention. She agreed and called the owner who happened to be the chef. The owner argued that the meat is usually mostly fat, and asked me if I’ve been to fugo de chao. He compared this steak to fugo de chao’s , and pretty much proceeded to school me on why it’s supposed to be mostly fat. I told him I’ve had same meat at fugo de chao and Chama gaucho, and it wasn’t covered with 80% fat. The owner was rude and condescending. He told me to go ahead and leave a 1 star review. Which is exactly what I am giving him. The shrimp taco that i ordered was also sub par. They do have tasty complimentary chips and dip, but dare not ask for another basket because they’ll charge you for it. I will highly recommend you go spend your money somewhere else during this...
Read moreDecided to take my mother-in-law, who is Mexican, here for her birthday dinner. Wanted to give this place a try and it was a terrible disappointment to say the least. All the food was terribly bland. We knew we were in for a disappointing night when we got the Queso Fundido w/roasted red peppers. Although there were five of us at the table and plenty of it to make several tacos, our waitress brought us a mere four tortillas. Next we got some guacamole and chips. The guacamole was tasteless. We finally decided to say something, expecting the waitress would apologize and take it back. Instead she asked us, "what is it missing?" Um, are we the chefs? But we said, "um, probably salt." She pointed to the salt on the table. We then suggested lime and she said, "OK, I can bring you some limes." So that's the solution here? The customer should find ways to season their own food to make it edible?
Next came our meals -- two carne asadas for me and my daughter that were completely tasteless. My wife ordered the Pollo Argentino. While the garlic wine sauce had some flavor, the chicken was bland like everything else. My mother-in-law's ceviche was the same. We saw little point in complaining further although it should've been obvious to the waitress that we weren't thrilled. But we figured if we expressed anymore disappointment we'd likely be directed to the kitchen to try to season our own food.
Overall, what an incredibly expensive tasteless meal. There are so many other options available in the Naperville/Aurora area for good Latin food. Do yourself a favor and...
Read moreI live in the area and have tried every restaurant around here, and let me tell you… the food is amazing, comfort food is my weakness. I’ve been here with my boyfriend 4 times. Everything we’ve tried taste delicious. I love the yuca fries, I asked for the arrachera plate the first time I went and I loved how tender and juicy the meat was. My boyfriend asked for the ropa vieja, had so much flavor; he devoured his plate. Second time around, I wanted to get the same plate, but went with the Chilean Seabass, and it was delicious. My boyfriend asked for the Picanha, and I had to eat half of his plate, he even ordered a Picanha to go. He also order the Tuna Tarta cold bites, he loved those. I’m not a tuna person but I can tell he loved them. every time we go we try something different, and it never disappoints. I can’t get over the Sopa negra, I ask for it every time we’ve been there, that soup must have crack because I’m addicted and I can eat it everyday. Overall the employees are such friendly people, makes us feel right at home the times we’ve been there. They come to our table constantly asking if we need anything else. I recommend this place to...
