Food was excellent (can see why there’s a line) but I have to say that the interaction with the bartender/server behind the bar nearly made me get up and walk out. I made reservations to dine with a friend in the restaurant after happy hour, but opted to leave after the appetizers and dine at the Village because the employee left such a bad taste in my mouth.
Sat down at the bar waiting for my friend at 5:45. Yes, it was slammed, and I understand how busy she was, so no problem that I wasn’t acknowledged for the first 5 min. When she finally came around she hurriedly asked me what I’d like to drink. I ordered and spoke to put my food/happy hour request in, but she cut me off mid sentence and went to the next guests. I sat there for another 10 minutes trying to get her attention but she kept zooming past. When she finally came around and I tried to order some happy hour apps, she told me hh was over- it was 6:02. I stated nicely I’d tried to order with her initially when I sat down when she took my drink order and that I was cut off, and she gave me the dirtiest look and started arguing with me that she did not cut me off. She then angrily asked, “so what do you want.” It was the most tense and unnecessary interaction, and even the couple next to me noticed. I stated how awkward that was to the person sitting next to me, and she came back to interrupt us talking (we were talking about work) and yelled that she did not cut me off. How rude and unprofessional.
She then proceeded to offer bread to everyone except me- until the gentleman next to me told her how he loves the bread and so she had to stop and offer some. I don’t know, it was just bizarre.
I don’t know if she was having a crisis or she was stressed, but she was so short with everyone and just seemed so triggered- just angry and tense. Everytime someone tried to get her attention by saying excuse me, or hi (she had given the wrong check to the man next to me), she’d always snap back saying “my name is —, you can call me —.” With that type of service, I’m surprised you’d want people knowing your name. I’ve worked in high stress and busy service sectors my whole life and have never spoken to others in that manner.
Anyhow, happy with the food that I’d ordered apart from the oysters having shell debris, but that happens. The side vinegar cucumbers that accompanied the ahi was a nice touch, and the crab lump and margi were refreshing. Crusty warm bread was awesome. When the check came, it was wrong, but I did not care enough to attempt to bring it up, left a nice tip, and left with a smile. However, I’ll never...

Read moreOn a night when we were in the mood for just a basic piece of fish, we ended up at Mr Big Fish. Our waitperson, Lynn, was efficient and knowledgeable and provided us with drinks and crusty, dense bread. I asked for a recommendation and she suggested that the Ciopppino was her favorite thing on the menu. Having been disappointed with this selection on various other occasions in Naples, I was taking a chance but ordered it anyway. I was very pleasantly surprised with the offering here. This was the best Cioppino I have ever had in Florida. The variety of seafood was not overwhelming, some restaurants throw everything but the kitchen sink in their Cioppino, Mr Big Fish goes for quality not quantity. Each bite was a revelation in the proper preparation of this dish. Marvelous mussels, luscious little neck clams, delicious diver scallops, and giant perfectly done shrimps served over the best part of this dish, a lovely multi-layered sauce on a generous bed of linguine. I can't do justice to the way the chef has developed the flavors that are contained in this sauce, thicker than a bouillabaisse but not the consistency of a marinara and loaded with little bits of seafood. I had to order more bread to sop up the remaining sauce in my dish, it was sooo good. We will certainly be back to...
