My husband and I take Tiki pretty seriously and visit Tiki bars wherever we travel. We love the variety of experiences.
Chopper has serious drinks. The rum flights are some of the best we have experienced. We did the single source flight. The rum selection rivals some of the most famous Tiki bars in the country.
Their mugs are off the hook, being thematic and seasonal.
The food truck was delicious and delivered to us in the bar.
What would have made it a complete experience is if the patio would have been cordoned off with some plants or bamboo fencing. We chose to drink at the bar, as we like to interact a little with the bar staff. Part of the Tiki experience is to visit a temporary world where time stops. It's kinda hard to do with a dollar general sign in a strip shopping center across the street and cars driving by, being plainly visible and audible. The Music was contemporary, and not Tiki by and stretch.
Staff were busy, but personable. A little more attention would have been appreciated to discuss the $50 flight. We also wanted to take more care with our drink orders, and not all the staff seemed to have a understanding of flavor profiles. We were there on a slow night, but there were not many staff there.
We definitely would return, but with adjusted...
Read moreChopper presents a paradox: a bar with an undeniably appealing atmosphere that unfortunately falls short in its service quality. Having frequented this establishment roughly a dozen times, I've watched a trend in the deterioration of customer experience.
It's time to face facts. What was once a "must-visit destination" has devolved into more of a "well, if we must" situation. The unique charm is still there, hanging on by a thread, but it's being suffocated by an atmosphere of apathy that's thicker than their cocktails.
The ambiance remains a strong point, and one can't fault the generous pours. However, the service leaves much to be desired. Even during quieter periods, the wait times have steadily increased, and the staff's demeanor has shifted from welcoming to disinterested.
Save yourself the emotional investment. Chopper has become less of a "let's make this our regular spot" and more of a "let's stop here while we decide where we actually want to go" kind of establishment.
Giving this 3 stars, I'm being generous because the decor still speaks to my soul, even if the...
Read moreI come here pretty often for Maize De La Vida and this is the first time the host at Chopper told me I couldn’t sit outside when there was an empty table. She said it was reserved for larger groups and the table only had four chairs…there was three of us. Didn’t feel like arguing with her so I caved and told her it was okay for the standing area. Asked if we go to the bar for drinks or if we have a server. It was about 15 minutes before the server came for our drink order. As I’m waiting for my drink another 15 minutes passed and no one was at that empty table we asked the hostess for. We could have be chilling at the table ordering more drinks but nope the hostess couldn’t seat us at a table with four chairs because we have three people. As I was walking out she was telling this other couple that she couldn’t seat them at a booth because it was also for larger groups. Meanwhile there was a couple sitting at a booth and plenty of empty booths. None this makes sense for the hostess to be unaccommodating when there were plenty of places to sit. Terrible experience and...
