1st I ordered half chicken okra potato salad through grubhub pickup. I lived at gus's in Knoxville it was always amazing never a off experience food always hot freash. So to say I was elated when I found out Gus's opened here in Nashville I was pumped. Today was that day so I go to pickup walk to the front counter. (This only pertains to the b heavier set woman of color lady with purple hair with a high pitched voice) Gus's needs better training or find better people who care about actually running a good business. I give her my name she goes to get the food she looked around asked the guys in the back she turns w👀at yo name huh what's the order # name(I show her my order on the phone) she says awe turns back yells at the guys my name again. Then she starts fussing at the guy "I told you blah blah blah) it's looking like a fight about to break out. (I didn't know to run or what) They guy says his food is right here like I told you. She grabs the slings it up on the counter eyes rolling heAH she says. Then says I need to confirm the order as I grab the food. She grabs the bag and says I need to confirm with the high pitch voice. I said I just showed when you asked me for my order and name. Well I didn't see it at this point in trying to leave so I show her I make sure everything was right because I'm not coming back in there to fight or someone might hurt me in that place. So I look at my food and everything is mixed up together because she was swinging the bag around. At this point I just left noway was I staying in that place another minute for fearing I could get hurt. Definitely never take your kids in there if you do and see the woman of color with purple hair with high pitched voice ask for...
Read moreI know this review will sound shady and sus, but I’m just a regular person and I went there for the first time tonight I am not a family member or something like that. It was just a really great experience!!
I don’t know how to describe my experience at Gus’s. Every aspect was over-the-top outstanding.
Atmosphere -clean, quaint and bright. The employees were all neat and well-kempt. We sat at the bar/counter. They have beer and wine but they were out of wine tonight.
Service and staff- everyone seemed proud to work there. They were a machine in getting the jobs done. Meticulous but calm and steady. Someone temperature tested every piece of chicken out of the fryer. The man plating the food was careful and intentional. Proud-like. 5 different employees greeted or acknowledged us. They were sincerely happy to have us as guests! Not one employee looked at their phone during our visit.
Food!!! Wow!!! Food is fresh and homemade. Chicken is never frozen. I had the 3 wing meal with the traditional sides, baked beans and slaw. The wings were perfectly crispy and delish! Sides excellent! My friend had one of the specials, 5 tenders and 2 sides for $12! He had Mac and cheese and slaw and he loved it all too! Someone from the kitchen offered us a slice of pecan pie and it was incredible!
We sat for quite a while just observing the staff and operation. It was so impressive. I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced this level of care, work ethic and service in a retail business. If this is the Gus’s business model, it should be studied and copied. Go see for yourself. I’ll be back and I hope it’s the same, not just a...
Read moreFirst time ever trying a Gus's World Famous Chicken that I give 3.5 stars. The very mild spicy flavor wrapped in a fried battered coating as opposed to the typical floured breaded coating wasn't bad, just different. The chicken itself was tender and fried well and something I would have to have a specific taste for in the future. However the slice of sweet potato pie I tried deserves a BIG FAT F. This was an absolute insult to my taste buds and wallet at $5.17 total a slice. If you grew up on real sweet potato pie, I believe you will be like What The Frikk. Whatever flavor or spice they use overwhelms the actual taste of the sweet potato and leaves a bitter aftertaste. Still can't figure out what it was, but after the first couple of bites, I threw it away. This is one item that needs a redo or removed from the menu. I suggest getting the recipe from Big Mama or removing it from the menu, cause this ain't it. Yuk & Yuk! The prices for chicken are better then other chicken joints in Nashville, but the atmosphere was dark and in my opinion could use...
