Ohana Hawaiian BBQ — Restaurant in National City

Me and my family have been eating here for years. The food is always delicious and in large portions.

However, they are unprofessional to their customers. On Thanksgiving, I called ahead of time (3 hours in advanced so at 2 pm) to inquire about what time they closed-- they quoted me 5 pm. Okay cool I can work with that.

I get there at 4:20 and I'm greeted by a lady that just bluntly tells me that they're closed already. They were already closing down the kictchens and cleaning up the place, yet the door was still open. I understand folks want to try and leave early for Thanksgiving, but I was trying to feed my family at a place we loved to eat. I didn't even bother putting up a fuss because I didn't want to ruin their Thanksgiving-- but they sure as hell did for mine.

If you quote a customer a certain time you close and can't uphold that, its unbelievably unprofessional and embarrassing as a business. I will have to consider other dining options that are more than plentiful here in national city.

Edit: Decided to give these guys a 2nd chance and although the food is more or less still spot on however, the entire restraunt smelled like cigarettes. Keep in mind this was in the middle of the day during business hours. Not exactly the most appetizing smell for...

The food here is really good, we try to order maybe once every couple months. Problem is, everytime we call to place an order, the phone is endlessly "busy" or they just never answer. I end up having to come and order in person and theres hardly anyone ever here so its not like they're super busy. Once, I decided to call them while I was sitting in the dining area, and the girl just let the phone keep ringing and ringing. I called several times to see if she'd pick up and she didnt bother. There weren't any other customers either. Another time I called while I was here and the phone line kept ringing busy and again, I'm the only customer in here and the cashier dude is just scrolling on his phone. I even tried to order thru Doordash and it said it was closed but I knew it wasnt. I ended up coming in person to order. I ordered "crazy spicy ramen" because I like the noodles not as a soup, but was told they cannot make it less spicy. I asked several times to clarify but there was literally apparently nothing they could do to make it more mild. Well, I got it and yep it was too spicy to eat but more than that...it was like a chunk of one big noodle pile. Just not...impressive at all. I also ordered the chx katsu box. The photos speak for themselves...no way in hell would I eat this chicken it looks somehow rotten, overcooked and yet pink in some areas too. Finally, the rice in the side was cold. Like...just straight up not even warm. Wow! So for $15 and a tip...what I could eat was a few bites of ramen and the lumpia I ordered as a side. That was good but honestly I don't think I would ever trust any of the food here after this experience. There's a chance I will get sick just based on how poorly everything seems to be cooked.
