85C Bakery Cafe - National City — Restaurant in National City

Went back a couple times and its so relaxing especially on a warm evening to sit outside enjoy the fresh air and drink a delish coffee and eat a light snack. Avoid the horrific lines at SB, and get wonderful treats here!

3/5/22 update, Covid changed things as everyone knows. Previously like Einstein Bagels, this shop had clear see through self serve bins with a variety of yummy baked goods, many of which catered to the Asian community. Now those bins are empty. The baked and yummy goods are prepackaged and on tables and open displays.

The delight is in the various decadent desserts that are behind the counter. Tonight we enjoyed Mango Panna Cotta Cup, Cookies and Cream Mousse Cup, and a slice of the Deluxe Strawberry Cream Cake. We enjoyed a Hazelnut Latte & Vanilla Latte coffee☕ both with soy milk🥛 (because they didn't have Almond milk).

Gone were the dancing music and student-filled Cafe of yester-year.

The pop music in the background and the vibe tonight was peaceful, relaxing, and exactly 💯 what we wanted: mom and daughter time. The delicious delicacies 🍰 and coffee brightened the moment.

It’s been a little over 20 years now since their first shop opened up in Irvine, California. Although I don’t mind the 8 mile drive to National City (closest location to my home), I would think by now a location would be set up down south, somewhere closer to the border.

The family and I love 85C Bakery Cafe primarily for their fresh, soft home baked, delicious pastries! We’ve bought cakes at their National City location before, but their pastries have been our favorite treats in the shop. Tops.

I always look forward to walking inside 85C Bakery. My eyes, are all wide open, walking through the shop, looking up and down each shelf. Staring at all the pastries displayed - I want them all. I feel like a little girl at a candy shop.

Unfortunately, I had my daughter run in a buy whatever looked good plus the usual pastries that we’re accustomed to getting. Had I gone inside and shopped with her, we would have been on sweets overload.

By the way, there’s always a line at the register. Whether short or long, all cashiers are ready to ring you up. That’s a big plus. Unless there’s a complicated customer, rest assure, the lines do move.

85C Bakery Cafe on Fat Tuesday…why not...

The remodel looks great and it is nice to have more seating available. However the last few times I have went, the customer service has been really terrible. My drink was made incorrectly and the girl at the register argued with me about what I ordered even when I specified I couldn’t have the salt foam because of medical issues. My drink hasn’t changed in 7 years but she insisted I ordered the current trendy Taro Lavender Salted latte. I am sure she just hit the button rather than hear me because neither of my drinks were correct but I wasn’t worried about the second one. I’m not sure what she wanted me to do when so voices it wasn’t correct and dangerous for me to drink…. maybe throw away my drink so she didn’t have to make it right or just drink it and end up in the hospital again. Anything besides her having to remake it. The drinks have gone down in generally, no foam, barely crushed ice. The milk is never aerated, I do not know if they train them on hot beverages but they are always burnt tasting now. The buns selection has been limited even when I go right after a night...
