2 days in a row of PERFECTLY SEASONED and BALANCED FLAVORS, WELL PORTIONED, meals. I devoured the whiting platter with mac and cheese and collards. Hubby had Shrimp. Our proteins were so good that you could taste great flavor even though it took 20-30 minutes before we could get into it. Everything was still lightly crisp and not overly salty. I'm the type that eats fries in the car because they aren't the same cold, same usually goes for fried seafood and this was sooo on point. More importantly the WHITING IS FRESH (not that nasty oversized usuallyfrozen "ling" whiting many places sell. Collards were great and had the slightest hint of vinegar instead of sugar, which was how my granny used to fix hers. I don't know when soul food made the switch to putting sugar into everything, but I'm so glad that isn't the case here (I don't feel like I'm eating a diabetes inducing dinner). The baked mac and cheese is actually baked. The best thing about it is that there's no off-putting flavors like black pepper, paprika, mustard, etc. that some people like to cook with in their recipe. It tastes like mac, cheddar, milk, and butter simple perfection. The kicker... Real sweet Hawaiian rolls! Not the cheap dry milk roll other places put on the side. We ate here for the first time yesterday... so good I had to come back to make sure it wasn't a dream. Let me tell you it wasn't. Definitely reminds me of the food I grew up with. This is what anticipate anytime I'm getting soul food. Finally a local restaurant I can confidently eat at. The woman owner who served us was so warm and friendly as well. They've absolutely earned our business. And the Playlist will have you bopping to old school RnB....
Read moreI’m really disappointed with my recent experiences here. For the second time in just two weeks, the restaurant closed early without any notice to customers. It takes only a few minutes to update business hours online or change a voicemail message, and doing so would save customers like me a lot of frustration. I’m not local to the area, so driving all the way there just to find the doors locked is discouraging and feels like a lack of respect for customers’ time.
I did try calling ahead, but the phone is rarely answered, and the voicemail even mentions they intentionally stop answering calls an hour before closing, which clearly doesn’t help when the store closes early without warning. In 2025, there’s no excuse for a business not to keep its hours updated or offer online ordering options through platforms like Uber Eats or Grubhub.
What makes this especially disappointing is that the food is genuinely good, and I want to keep supporting this place. I love backing local businesses, especially Black-owned businesses, but poor communication and inconsistent business practices make it hard to do so. I hope they take this feedback seriously, because with a few improvements in professionalism and technology, this could easily be a standout spot in...
Read moreWe celebrated my brother's 63rd birthday last Saturday and the food was catered by It Ain't Just Fish located in Neptune City. Not only did they beautifully decorate the event space, but they prepared a feast that kept the guests coming back for more. The baked pasta dish (my favorite) was covered in a rich, creamy sauce and full of plump, succulent shrimp. The collard greens were fresh and very well-seasoned. The macaroni and cheese was blended in a gooey, delicious cheese sauce and then baked to perfection. The swai was lightly seasoned, then fried until it was crispy on the outside and light and flaky on the inside (it was just as delicious when I ate a piece for breakfast the following day!). The cabbage was fresh and tasty and their signature fried chicken wings did not disappoint! I would recommend their services and food to anyone looking for catering services or just wanting to stop by and pick up a meal for the family. The food was a huge part of the party's success and they did...
