Very pathetic display of service and understanding. I very rarely give ANY restaurant a bad review, especially a local small town place. However, with that being said...... 1.) Called on May 30th and asked if they would be accepting the $20 gift certificates that were purchased through the Ames Tribune past the 5/31/20 cutoff date (nearly every other restaurant is, due to the world’s worst pandemic since the Spanish Flu.... It’s called Covid-19, if you’ve never heard of it) I was promptly informed: “NO, we will not be honoring those certificates past 5/31”. Even though this is a pathetic display of understanding and compassion for the community, I still wanted to use my certificate. So... 2.) I called back that evening and ordered their pizza, cheese bread, dessert special, and ordered it for pickup. BUT, here’s the kicker...After the fact, I was later told that I COULD NOT pay with the gift certificate, because the special was not ‘full price’. I told the guy that nowhere on the certificate does it state that any of these exclusions apply or that the $20 is limited to certain menu items. His response?: ‘Doesn’t mater. We don’t accept that.’ Long-story-short... There was a long pause before I eventually said “Ok, I guess I have to cancel my order then.” He then quickly cut me off. VERY sad service, especially given the circumstances. Honestly,...
Read moreGeorge's pizza shares a space with Cubbies on Main. Their pizza is absolutely gourmet quality as far as I'm concerned, and they have several very interesting flavor combinations. Pizza is not sold by the slice but by the pie, which they bring out to you and serve to you on a convenient tray. All the sides I have tried were quite good, I especially liked the fried mushrooms and the fried cheese curds. Beer is available on tap and in bottles/cans. Prices are reasonable, but not cheap. The service is acceptable, it's a small town restaurant and everything moves a little slower. It took me about as long to get an entire pizza as a beer the last time I went, but usually, the service is quite prompt and polite. It doesn't tend to ever get very busy, as far as I can tell from the 3-5 times I've gone. It's a quaint little out of the way place and definitely a hidden gem. Note: The building looks different than it does in most of the photos. There is no longer a street art painting of a piece of pizza. The entire thing is just plain white now. It makes it look drap and depressing from...
Read moreWalked up to a cool outside with a graffiti sign. Inside was a bit wierd. Too many different places could used to be opened up fully with the party room in the back. We had 7 for dinner on Saturday night. Menu was huge. We ordered taco pizza, honey pizza, wings, fried portabella mushrooms, poppers, pork tenderloin, onion rings, and a philly. Took 45 minutes for food to be brought out which isn't bad considering take out and facility were full. Pizza we ordered fab! Wings, rings, and mushrooms great. Sandwiches not good. Skip and get the pizza. Wish they'd open it all up, take out the high tops, do 6 ft tables to accommodate big pizzas and get rid of sandwiches. The pizza is where this place shines!! Staff super friendly, drinks limited, and patrons from all walks. You could have a great place here. Focus on the fab pizza, open it up, 6 ft tables, and fried apps and sticks are the bomb. I'd come here 2x a week if I could have what I listed. Good food. Go for the pizza!!! Stay for...
