Racism has become rampant and sadly, I dealt with it when ordering food from this establishment. I was born in America and I live in Lake Tahoe as a resident. Ironically, my encounter was from a white staff member, at a Japanese restaurant, in which it is run by non-Asian workers. Firstly, I entered the restaurant and waited by the check-in counter to try and place a takeout order. The staff was polite and acknowledged that they’d come over soon. However, when they did come about 15 minutes later, a line had formed and they decided to sit the group behind us first (since they were dining in), and we were left in line again without being able to put in our order. As we were waiting, we noticed that group was able to put in their order, had food eventually come out, and yet we were still standing at the front of the restaurant without being able to put in our takeout order. My group noticed and questioned this and even urged me to leave and go somewhere else; however, I decided to stick it out and wait and eventually, we were able to put in our order. To be clear, none of this felt racist at all yet - it was more of annoyance run by poor operations, which I felt forgiving towards. 30 minutes later, our food was ready. When I was asked for my card to pay for the bill, the total that was told seemed quite higher than what I was anticipating. I asked the employee to print the bill for me to see, and that is when I noticed a 12% mandatory gratuity line item on the receipt. Look, I’m all for supporting local businesses and workers, but after the poor service of what I just experienced for just trying to get my order in, I didn’t feel that gratuity was deserving, let alone, a compulsory 12% for a takeout order. So I asked the staff why there was a gratuity line item on the receipt. He said it was mandatory by management. Then the following conversation happened: Me: “What do you mean it’s mandatory? I’ve never seen mandatory gratuity for a takeout order, let alone, for 12% of the entire bill.” Him: “That’s how we do it. We can take it out of the bill, but you’d have to add gratuity separately after we swipe your card.” Me: “I still don’t understand how gratuity is mandatory for takeout. I’m not willing to pay that.” Him: “Okay. We can take it out, but you’re going to have to pay for it separately after we charge your card. Are you going to leave a tip?” Me: “No, I won’t.” Him: “So you never leave a tip when you order takeout?” Me: “No. I don’t usually tip for takeout.” Him: “Wow. IN AMERICA, it is extremely rude to not leave a tip for takeout.” I immediately froze after his comment. Was he implying based on how I look that I wasn’t American? I have never for my 30+ years of existence ever seen mandatory gratuity for takeout, unless it was clear before ordering that certain other fees / surcharges would be applied to the final total. I understand the worker probably didn’t mean to leave a racist comment, but this totally took me off guard and spoiled the rest of my and my friends/family’s evening. This situation could have been handled so much better in a way where I probably would have still left a tip without feeling the way his comment made me feel. It’s instances like these that remind me of the underlying and unconscious racism that exists and is rampant in this country and it’s extremely sad to have dealt with it in a community where I live in. I wish I had the energy to call this staff worker out. But after a long day and evening, I ended up paying the mandatory gratuity for horrible service and to experience a splash of racism and entitlement. I will never return to this restaurant and urge others to not support this business.

Family had a weekday dinner at this Elk Point Road in Zepher's Cove restaurant. There were two choice in this shopping center; Japanese or Mexican, though we like both, this night Asian food won out. There is plenty of tables here both in and outside, service was good and food was served prompt. Our order consisted of Tempura Combination dinner, Sushi Special #2, Kamikaze, Tempura Roll and Bento Chicken box. Family all enjoyed their meals, though if you are thinking of ordering the Tempura Combination dinner, I suggest just getting the Tempura dinner as the only difference as I can tell is you get one piece of shrimp tempura with the combination for a higher priced plate. There isn't a restroom in the place but one outside a shared hallway with other businesses. Thought the price was on the high side. Otherwise, I would likely eat here again as the place had a nice atmosphere.

Harumi is our neighborhood local sushi place but we know plenty of locals come over from the CA side as well. It’s in Round Hill Plaza near Safeway, less than 2 miles into NV side from the casino corridor. Tons of free parking available. The fish quality is amazing and there’s a wide variety to choose from on the menu. We often sit at the sushi bar to talk with other guests and with the chefs. Tonight, Ichiro prepared a delicious Hamachi carpaccio along with a couple of rolls for us. The staff is welcoming to all guests whether “locals” or folks visiting Tahoe on vacation. Highly recommend, and easy atmosphere for families too.

Honestly say sad. But everything is in order. We ordered 2 dishes: 1. Sashimi and 2. Dinner Combo where she should have been - Sashishi, Sushi Nigiri, Salmon Grill in Tereyaki and Salad sauce. 1. Sashimi. We really liked it. The pieces are big, the chef did with the soul. But the whole fish was on the verge of freshness. That is, it is fresh, but not the first freshness. 2. Dinner combo disappointed us strongly. Salmon Grill was not just not fresh, he had already gave a rotten. It was straight a lot upset, Sashimi from Salmon, too, apparently the same salmon were not fresh. Further, more fun. We reported that we do not have a fresh salmon to the two waiters. Both waiters say Thanks for the feedback and go. As a result, we did not replace this fish, no one came out apologize for not freshness of the products, we did not make a new portion of fresh. And the saddest thing, did not even remove the cost of this dish from the check. Now we sit with your husband in the room and we are waiting for us to be bad, because the stomach twisted immediately after leaving the restaurant. Very sad experience. I put one star for very polite waiters and one star for Sashimi. Definitely, I do not advise this place.

This was the worst experience i have had .our person who greated us also our waiter had torn sweat pants on and they were dirty . He had no personality although was pleasant not rude just nothing .my husband commented that he looked like a convicted felon. We ordered an appitizers and two rolls our rolls came out they were loose and big they just fell apart when you tried to pick them up half way through my appitizers came out . We never saw that waiter again .some other girl came out tp ask if we we ok and if we needed anything else brought our check and took our money. Now she was good and looked professional. That waiter was no where to be seen we laughed and said maybe he had to check in with his parole officer ha ha . This is why there was a 45 min wait at shushi pier and there were 2 tables filled at your resturant on a weeknight by the way . Step it up ... waited the 40 min next time i went...
