If I could give zero or negative stars I would. Went there today for Mother's Day, we had a reservation for 5 people at 12. When we arrived we were promptly greeted and shown to our table. Several minutes went by and a waitress finally came over to take a drink order. We let her know that we have looked over the (very limited) menu and are ready to order. She placed our order and returned with drinks and rolls, not Portuguese pops. We were one of three tables there. 30 minutes has gone by and my mother in law's chicken soup finally came to the table. In that time no one came to offer refills on drinks, everyone needed one. Her soup was terrible, very salty. Another 15 minutes goes by still no drink refills and our food comes. At first the plates look acceptable and the waitress finally agrees to a drink refill. I ordered chicken Mozambique which I have ordered many many times at other restaurants and even cook for my own family. What was served to me was chicken in a cream sauce with little flavor. I do not care for cream sauce nor can I eat it. I let our waitress know it was not something I would be able to eat and she argued with me before finally reluctantly taking it back to the kitchen untouched. My family members struggled through their very American style plates of pre-packaged goya tasting food. We sat for another 30 minutes while our waitress avoided and ignored our table. I was never offered any alternative dish. I eventually had to shout for our waitress to bring our check which still had my meal listed. I attempted to get her attention but could not. I saw a disheveled looking man who I assumed was the owner, got up from my table and calmly approached him to say I am not prepared to pay for a meal that I had to send back. He argued with me and belittled me in the middle of the restaurant saying that what I ordered is what I was served and that it is traditional Mozambique. I insisted that I am not paying for a meal that was sent back and he relented saying "I'll take care of it for you" with enough attitude that I need another shower today. I have never been so disappointed with every aspect of a dining experience in my life. The food was poor, the service was poor, the owner was downright mean and nasty. It is clear this establishment has no concern for customer service or for keeping their patrons happy enough to return let alone recommend to a friend. By the way we all have upset stomachs this afternoon. Save yourself and choose literally any other place. I...
Read moreA hidden gem located at 1528 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford, Cafe Mimo Restaurant is an excellent dining experience that is regarded by many locals as the best restaurant for Portuguese food in the city. My wife and I are open to trying new dishes and we have been enjoying many unique Portuguese delicacies that are promoted online daily and compliment their traditional menu choices. We both love seafood and for an appetizer we generally choose between Littlenecks with Garlic Sauce or Spanish Style, both are delicious! I have my go-to choices for an entree that I will mention first. Seafood Linguine, Seafood Mozambique, Baked Stuffed Salmon & Baked Seafood Platter are each delicious and will satisfy my urge for a seafood dish. Each dish is made-to-order and if you would enjoy an adult beverage while you wait, they have draft beer, bottled beer, wine & excellent cocktails that are all reasonably priced. I enjoy their Sangrias that add a generous scoop of diced fruit & your choice of Sumol Sparkling Juice. Regarding the Baked Stuffed Salmon, ask for a side order of their Creamy Mozambique Sauce for an upcharge. You will not regret it. I dip the salmon & vegetables in a cup of this sauce and I love it. You can order Chicken or Shrimp Mozambique dishes with the regular or creamy Mozambique Sauce and you will crave that sauce until your next visit. Cafe Mimo Restaurant features daily specials and authentic Portuguese limited or seasonal food items are featured. Their excellent & friendly staff will provide you with answers to any questions that you may have about that, should you decide to explore food offerings that you haven't experienced before. I enjoyed every one. My favorites included Lapas ( Mediterranean mollusks ), Portuguese Goat Stew, Portuguese Tripe & Bean Stew, & they featured dry rubbed Grilled Ribs that were the best ribs that I have had in the area. We have become "regulars" at Cafe Mimo Restaurant on our mission to explore new dining experiences, and my wife and I are grateful that we did. They have off street parking behind the restaurant, but you do not have to feed the meters after 6:00 if you see an open space. I am certain that I will continue reporting on their other fine food choices...
Read moreI’ve been going to this wonderful Portuguese restaurant for years. Their food is awesome. The last time I went with my fiancé, they sat us in an area, that was reserved. There more tables available. But sat us here for some reason. We ordered a food. It was the most expensive Portuguese steak they had. I’ve ordered a steak many times. This time the peppers did they used (red Portuguese peppers) were so spicy they made the steak super spicy, it literally burned our mouthes. When we asked the manager if he could make us another steak less spicy? He replied it’s not my fault that you ordered the wrong steak. This steak was so bad I could not even eat it, but I did, because I don’t mind spicy food. However, my fiancé could not stomach the heat. Upon his refusal to replace her steak at least, I was insistent she took two bites of the steak and did not want it. So he made us another steak. The waitress asked if I would like the steak that she had I said yes. Then my fiancé immediately said they’re going to charge you for it so I asked the waitress and sure enough she was going to charge me for the bad steak. They made us another steak to go and shoed us out of there. When we got home the steak had an old dirty straw wrapper under it! I can only assume they dropped it on the floor, and picked it up and put it into the styrofoam container. I actually ate half of the steak when I noticed the straw wrapper. OMG SO GROSS!!! I wanted to see them because it was the owner and the owner’s wife I believe is a waitress. Don’t ever go to this restaurant. This place used to be great but now it’s the worst. I’m upset that I can’t give Mimo’s a lower rating. They’re...
