First off the food here is delicious and very high quality~What a pleasant surprise!
Short review: Would give them 10 stars if I could! I care about high food quality, taste, and costumer service. The owners are very kind, hardworking, funny, and care about their costumers. This place is a gem!
Longer review: We are from out of state and our here on a medical trip. God, Jesus, told us to stop at this place for lunch, so we ordered online and came by around 3:10pm. The owners are a husband and wife team ~they are so kind and so funny! The wife is actually from Thailand and truly understands the flavors đŻ. I had ordered a level 5 spice for all the food. They were very nice to explain that a level 5 spice is indeed very very very spicy and wanted to make sure I ordered correctly. After talking with them we settled on a level 3 spice for all the food (with extra spice on the side if we wanted to add more later). So thankful for their attention to details!
Side note: They will make the dish very spicy (level 5) or will keep it more mild if you like. I canât tell you how many times I have asked for âvery spicyâ at other Thai restaurants and no one listens they keep it mild and a level 5 is never spicy enough. Well this place is different the wife understands her homeland spice well and does an excellent job at staying authentic to the different spice levels and proper flavors associated with each dish. She also knows how to cook!!! The sesame seed oil she uses has such a unique and delicious flavor. The vegetables in the spring rolls had extra flavor added to them too (something I donât see other Thai restaurants do) true attention details~ so good!
Every dish was excellent. Some of my favorites were the drunken noodles, wonderful smoky flavor. The salmon was cooked perfectly and sauce was really tasty. Fried green beans was also amazing too!
Also love how these dishes had just the right amount of sweetness~ not over sweet and I absolutely loved that! So nice! Other Thai restaurants Iâve been to add way to much sugar and it ruins the dish and drowns out all the other unique flavors. Was so nice to have many dishes that were properly flavored and not just a bowl of sugar sauce. Another great attention to detail!
Something else I want to mention is as I was waiting for the food to be finished the husband (owner) gave me a free Thai tea and Thai Coffee. When I offered to pay he didnât want anything, just was being nice and wanted to let me try something that I didnât order and wasnât familiar with. I truly appreciate his kindness Made me very happy to be there. The Thai tea was really tasty and sweet! I am a big fan of coffee and still drinking the Thai coffee he gave me~ so tasty!
Anyways just go and support them ~ If Iâm ever back in Connecticut I would love to see this place still here and thriving! However, I wouldnât mind if they decided to move closer to where I live haha đđ. We desperately need a perfect 5 star Thai food restaurant in my area and would be more than happy to have them here!
Much love sent to this special place~ thanks for the delicious meal, laughs,...
Read more3/5/25 Again another quick lunch in-dining stop to Thai Kitchen 29, again tremendous and food oh so consistent!!! Had my usual Thai clear noodle soup with chicken and shrimp⌠totally delicious and I always add a full mini cup of the thick hot red sauce(not the oil base sauce). I started with a delicious Sum Tum(papaya salad- Thai). The Sum Tum always the best(spice level #3, thatâs my preference).it should be served with cabbage, unfortunately on Tuesday, there was none- traditional served with white/green/Chinese cabbage- I KNOW, and the owner agreed)-still delicious!! No Thai restaurant in CT can compete- PERIOD!! 7/3/24- I stopped in for a quick lunch- ordered a bowl of Clear Noodle soup with chicken, shrimp and plenty of scallion spears. Again, Delicious! Perfect broth, excellent portions and filling. Thai Kitchen29- my #1. The owner really knows her Thai cuisine- traditional.
6/30/24- I returned to Thai Kitchen 29 for take-out. I ordered I identical items, Sum Tum #1 spice(Thai style) and Druken Noodle with pork #2- perfectly prepared, completely consistent with my first visit AND absolutely delicious. #2 spice may be too spicy for some so try #1 and progress at your next visit. The only CT Thai restaurant I will now visit- thank you.
Wow, WOW, wOw!! My first order at the Thai Kitchen 29, New Britain, CT). Where do I start? The Sum Tum(papyaya salad),Thai style-was tremendous. I ordered as 2 Star spice level and exactly as my palate expected. if you want to hear one negative/ I cherish my Sum Tum on white or green cabbage but the TK29 iceberg was fresh and crispy.. The Sum Tom soup(with pork) / perfectly spiced at the 2 star reference- loaded with mushrooms, onions, multi colored peppers and so tasteful. Main entree- Thai Druken Noodle with pork (2 star) ordered with extra scallions and I got extra scallions- perfect basil complement, ,plenty of pork, various color peppers, broccoli and classic spicing- loved this entree. So Iâm a regular at 7 Elephants(NYC) and at another Thai restaurant Southington, CT.. Thai Kitchen 29 is my now favorite Thai...
Read moreIf youâre craving Thai food or already a fan, please try this place! Donât be fooled by its tiny appearance â those other 5-star reviews donât lie!
You might think itâs a little pricey for a hole-in-the-wall (a very clean hole-in-the-wall), but hereâs what you get: Generous portions Fresh ingredients â I mean fresh fresh! Many American Thai places Iâve been to in CT use frozen fish fillets, but this place actually fillets a whole red snapper themselves! The cook is a perfectionist who doesnât take shortcuts. The sauce is perfectly balanced â flavorful, with just the right kick that would cater to southeast asian palate. Authenticity â We only tried three basic dishes today: som tum (papaya salad), beef pad thai, and fish in basil sauce. All were excellent â I wouldâve licked the plates if no one was watching! Pad Thai, though ubiquitous, is tricky to get right; this place nailed the balance between sweet, sour, and savory. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the ratio between bean sprouts, noodles, sauce, and meat was spot on. The cook (who is Thai) is also extremely accommodating since most dishes are made to order. We didnât request any customizations (like no onions, etc.), but they offered anyway. And the spice level? Definitely Asian-style spicy â not the typical American âspicy.â Surprisingly nice presentation (if youâre dining in). I had no expectations for this â I just wanted good food â but as I said, the cook clearly doesnât know how not to go above and beyond. The presentation was actually nicer than some of the fancier Thai places around here (minus the plastic water cups, which is fine â I couldnât care less about that). Wide menu selection â Iâm already planning what to order next time, because there will be a next time! Lastly, youâre supporting a local, family-run business that genuinely cares about the...
