Rice On Fire — Restaurant in New Haven

I walked into Rice on Fire today for the first time. This "hole-in-the-wall" in the middle of a somewhat depressed residential neighborhood was really a pleasant surprise. The menu is simple: you choose your protein, your vegetables, rice or noodles, and the sauce. They mix it all together on a flat grill-top, and your meal is ready in minutes. They also offer soup and egg rolls as additional options. Bottom line...the food is really flavorful, very fresh, and hot. Also, I paid under $10 for chicken stir fry with rice and a soda. Seating is extremely limited, so apparently the majority of their business is take-out, but don't let the appearance put you off. From the street, it looks like a neighborhood bodega, but you should really try Rice on Fire. The staff is friendly and helpful. The protein is real, and not processed meat. The vegetables are fresh, and the portions are ample. I've gotta say: if you're in the neighborhood (a few blocks down the street from New Haven Union Station) try...

It’s a very small establishment and has around six stools for you to sit on across this long table if you want seating. The menu is pretty basic. The food is awesome. Well seasoned and fresh. This was my first time eating here and I am a VERY VERY picky eater. I got the hibachi rice bowl with salmon and broccoli. The broccoli was cooked perfectly and so was the salmon. I wish I had added extra protein because it was lacking just a bit in terms of portion but was BIG on flavor. I got a side of yum yum sauce and spicy mayo. My favorite was the spicy mayo. The yum yum was a bit on the sweeter side, but still good. If I would give this place a 10/10 I would! Affordable and...

After our horrendous experience at Madeline’s Empanadas across the street (see my review there) we LOVED Rice on Fire.

First, the staff was very attentive and kind. Ready to serve and listened well to our orders. The food was prepared immediately and we didn’t have to wait long.

One order was beef with every veggie and teriyaki sauce. The other order was chicken with some veggies and yum yum sauce. The yum yum sauce was so delicious. Can’t recommend it enough.

Overall the food was fresh and delicious and we loved our experience. Would go back for sure. Highly...
