New Haven Pottery Studio is such a lovely, bright place. I have had two private lessons with Alexa, one was a parent and child lesson with my 12-year old son and the other was one-on-one. I have taken a few pottery lessons and done “one night spin” type events in the past so I am not a total novice, but my son was. Alexa is an outstanding teacher. She puts you at ease immediately with reassurances that there is plenty of clay and plenty of time— if you’re the kind of person who collects beautiful, clean notebooks and never writes in them for fear of messing them up, pottery may be for you. There is huge relief in knowing that you have plenty of opportunities to learn from the clay and your instructor and everything that doesn’t work out is recycled and will live again for another try. My son learned a lot in his lesson and felt safe and welcome in the studio. He had a small mishap with tools and the wheel and a muddy mess went flying— this too, was handed with grace as everything was tidied up and he got started again. We booked a separate appointment to return to glaze our pieces and he’s looking forward to it. He described his day in the studio as “the best day of his life”. I took my solo private lesson on a different day and it was once again relaxed and purposeful. About the studio: there is an area with pottery made by some of the talented artists of the shop for sale. There is a restroom and another designated space for cleanup after your session. While I haven’t used the split-leg aprons that are available, they work great— my son had nothing on his clothes after his lesson. These were handmade and are just the sweetest touch. All of the staff I have interacted with have been knowledgeable and supportive. The studio exudes welcome and is obviously a labor of love. Check it out, and enjoy!

I attended an intro class at The New Haven Pottery Studio and it was really engaging. Alexa structures the class in a way that’s simple to create and easy to grasp the basic concepts, especially if you’re a complete ignorant about pottery as I am (or being less now). If you’re interested in pottery and live around the area, give them a call. Here’s a piece I did after only one class, which is now in good use at home.

✨Had the BEST time at the pottery spot on Friday! The vibe was so chill and fun—it felt like I was hanging with friends instead of just doing a class. Alexa was an absolute gem, making everything feel easy and exciting. I left with a smile on my face and clay under my nails—definitely coming back for more! Highly recommend if you want to get your hands dirty and have a blast! ✨

New Haven Pottery Studio is wonderful! The studio is new and beautiful and well-stocked with every tool you could need to make anything you want out of clay. The atmosphere is great - Alexa the owner is exceptionally knowledgable, warm and friendly (she often brings her dog to add extra friendliness to the space). There’s a real feeling of generosity with all the tools and so much equipment available to use and work with. The studio is well-organized and clean. There’s lots of light and several shelves with examples of artists’ ceramics for inspiration. I just took a hand-building class and learned a lot and I totally enjoyed everything about it. The class was small. Maya was knowledgable and encouraging, and every week I felt like I was on a little vacation while I was in there. I think anyone would feel very welcomed and enjoy coming...

I had such a great time at the 420 pipe event at New Haven Pottery Studio! The space itself is beautiful, welcoming, and feels like a safe haven to relax, be yourself, and connect with new people. There was such a good vibe throughout the event.

Alexa, the instructor, was absolutely amazing—super friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. She really made the experience enjoyable and accessible, whether you were a beginner or more experienced. Her energy and guidance made the whole event feel personal and fun.

I'm so glad something like this exists in New Haven. It’s exactly what the community needed. I’ll definitely...
