Pelicans On the Bayou — Restaurant in New Iberia

This place is beyond disgusting. It really doesn't deserve one star. We chose this restaurant because we we're visiting from out of town and wanted cajun food. It was kinda late so our options were slim. Let me start from the beginning of our visit. The establishment itself needs a deep cleaning. All of the sauce bottles on the tables need replacing. The waitress that serviced us or lack there of rather needs training about the menu and customer service. We ordered several items from the menu to try and none of which were completely edible. Starters we had stuffed jalapeños they were actually balls of stuffing with jalapeños tidbits in it. They were overcooked and hard. We ordered 3 entrees, with grilled vegetables that were infact frozen veggies that appeared to be steamed. Two of the entrees included grilled shimp. They were served on skewers so dry they appeared to be dehydrated shrimp. The menu never mentioned the shrimp being shrimp skewers. The menu needs to be more descriptive and clear. One of the entrees included frog legs, which my mother was afraid if she ate them she would get food poisoning from the looks of them. We had an order of fries for my one year old son and they arrived warm and limp to the table. We didn't get asked if we wanted a refill until we were asking for the check.The waitress asked how our meal was, I told her and she didn't seem to care much. Went tonight for the first time because I was looking for music or a live band. It was only me and my 3 littles. I drove there all the way from Lafayette after asking for places that served cajun food with cajun music to entertain my littles. Right when I walked in I was immediately sat down. Our waiter came over and took our drink orders and food orders. Came out right away, even though the place was full. Two rooms, an open area in the front and then a more dim lighted area in the back where we could hear music coming from. Food was delicious. And our drinks stayed refilled. The waitress was super sweet, and on top of everything! Everyone that worked there from the younger to older were all really sweet and courteous! I parked across the establishment and it hadn't dawned on me, that it had gotten dark out. By the time I got to my car and packed the littles up, our waitress was already outside with my to go order and food so I wouldn't have to walk back or get down in the dark with my littles! I was scared to be out there, so she was super brave and that was truly a blessing for me! Also the prices were super affordable for seafood, and my plate as well as my 3 littles plates were full. Could barely close the to go box, and our waitress even had to go drinks ready, because we couldn't eat all of our food in one sitting. Definitely will make the drive back many times over with my family to dine here again! Awesome customer service...

Everything about our experience here tonight was bad. The service was bad , the wait for our food was over an hour , the food was bland. The waitress took our order and then never came back to check drinks or bring my side salad. I saw other guests come in the eat after us and get there's right away. After around 45 minutes I went to ask about my salad and let the waitress know that both my son and husband were out of drinks. Shortly after that the salad came. Then next was our childrens corndogs came, which I had told her not to bring them before ours because if they eat while we are waiting on our food our 1 year old will be DONE and ready to run around before we are done.
