Thunder Road Steakhouse & Cantina — Restaurant in New Mexico

So to start this off It is very rare that I do not leave a tip or even leave a bad review, but tonight, that changed after the 39$ meal my partner and I received.

I ordered the birria quesadilla with water, and my partner ordered carne asada steak tacos with wine. Order placed very quickly and easily. Problem incoming.....no less than 8 minutes our food comes out.

My birria quesadilla was extremely salty and had multiple cold spots it also had very little meat inside it.

My partners' carne asada tacos 2 of 3, which were cold, greasy, and served with 1 lime also the singular lime that was served with it was so old that it literally didn't produce any juice out of it. The steak that was used was incredibly bland. It just barely had more taste than the corn tortillas.

We had asked for more limes when the food was originally delivered, but our server never came back, so we can assume they forgot.

We paid an overpriced amount for half a glass of wine. Which ended up being stale! (Usually due from not being worked properly)

Furthermore, our server did not come back around after bringing out the food. They only ever made it back to us to rhetorically ask if we needed a box that they were already holding when approaching our table making it obvious that they noticed us just sitting there silently for what seemed like 10minuets or more.

This possibly would have been slightly more understandable if the restaurant was busy this Friday afternoon (4 pm) , but it wasn't. It was us and maybe 3 other tables, with plenty of servers running around.

Surprisingly, there was a manager on shift, but he was doing absolutely NOTHING productive but standing around, watching servers.

This is not the first time we've eaten here. We usually stop in for a few hours while passing through town, but on this miserable visit has us deciding we won't be returning to this casino or restaurant again.

We should've acknowledged all of the previous bad reviews about this place, giving no thought to the quality of flavor leaving that kitchen.

I do not recommend the cantina steakhouse and will probably spread this review to other platforms because of the horrible experience that...

At $17.99 a serving and having us pay‼️‼️‼️ I generally send compliments to the chef. Last night for the first time in my76 years of life; I asked the sweet waitress to please tell the Chef, he should be ashamed of serving this food. I should have asked him to come to the table, and told him myself. The three of us ordered the same meal, with the exception of my husband who changed his sides. We had string beans that were blanched poorly and were rubber hard, not crisp nor snap able, macaroni and cheese which had “no”cheese flavor, could taste a milk taste, the edges of the macaroni and cheese were flame torched and brown to black crust on approximately and 2 inches into the serving the noodles in those two inches were stiff and hard., the meatloaf had no spices in it no flavor and the meat was packed like spam, into a square shape, I used catsup and catsup was the only flavor I had in my bite of meatloaf. The waitress told the chef, “she said”, and we ordered dessert, which we never received‼️‼️ I have had a gastric bypass, and must be very careful on that I eat, it must be soft, pasta must be cut up small or chewed very thoroughly green vegetables must be digestible or liquify easily. After attempting to eat, this very difficult meal, I got pieces of hard pasta, stuck in my throat, when this happens I must get it out by sticking my finger down my throat. And regurgitating. I was in pain and in the rest room for quite awhile clearing my throat passage. The fact that we went through the waiting, the poor food, and insult of the cost and hype of the only full meal restaurant, in the Casino. Forces me to write this and send a copy on My neighbor and Facebook.thunder road steakhouse, casino 66...

I ate here last night. I got the soup, salad and salsa bar. I also ate the birria tacos.

On a scale from 1-10 I give this place a 3 star. This is purely based on the food taste and quality. They do have a wide selection of food from New Mexican, bbq and seafood.

Let’s begin with the salsa bar, a lot of items you could tell were old. The fruit was a lil slimey, the “elote” style corn rated like artificially flavored bacon, the salsas weren’t labeled so you didn’t know what you were getting. I thought they offered queso but it was not. It looked like queso but tasted horrible, I can’t even describe the taste. The chips were also stale.

When it came to my entree, the birria tacos, they looked okay but they were the worse tasting birria I’ve ever had. They had a deep chili powder taste and the consume was thick almost like applesauce and it tasted gross. The meat was tender but that’s basically the highlight. The corn tortillas were soggy.

We finished off with the fried ice cream. It was the best thing that we ate but it was gritty and soggy at the same time. I couldn’t really explain, I guess you’ll have to decide for yourself.

Serviced was good but there wasn’t any follow up whether or not the food was good. Though I heard my waiter ask another table he didn’t ask us. But when you don’t eat all of your food should be a red flag. Waiter should have had some intuition in that.

All in all, I wouldn’t be back. Try Laguna burger....
