I love this place and the jovial owner is usually there to greet and speak with you when he is not too busy. This is the BEST and most Spanish of all of the Tapas places in NOLA and since the owner is from Barcelona, Spain that probably helps. Chef Laurentino recently built a patio in the back that will be very nice to enjoy in the Fall.
They have the most tender and amazing calamari I've ever had anywhere in the world and I've never had anything but great food here. It can be a bit more expensive than I would like to eat here alone but if you have a group (and this food is meant to be enjoyed with others) it becomes affordable. I've had many great times with small and large groups in here. The sangria pitchers keep the excitement going along with the exquisite use of garlic. I LOVE the garlic soup and want to just have an IV of it in me always.
Currently they are cash only and they do have an ATM on site but you should probably make sure everyone in your party gets some smaller bills before you arrive to ensure you can more accurately pay your bill (especially if you are dividing it up between multiple diner.

Read moreMy wife and I have eaten Tapas many times and in many places (including in a coastal town not far from Barcelona)! We very much enjoy the casual style of dining and the mix of different dishes with good wine. Our experience at Barcelona Tapas was wonderful! We ate the garlic tomato bread with manchego cheese, garlic crimini mushrooms, garlic shrimp, garlic chicken casserole, chorizo in sherry casserole, and the meat paella. All accompanied by plenty of sangria and followed by the vanilla flan. The flavours were so rich I had to literally force myself not to order more dishes even though I was full (as we're the other 3 guests). Chef Xavier Laurentino was a great host and I can honestly say that this was the most enjoyable/best meal I've had in a long time. One oddity, they only take cash but there is a cash...
Read moreDefinitely not recommendable. Very bad experience. My husband felt very bad with the stomach the entire night after eating here. This is not real Spanish food. Food of very poor quality and cooked in a bad way. Chorizo al diablo was tiny fried thin slices of cheap chorizo. The squid dish was half the plate and was burnt. The tomato bread with chorizo dish was some cherry tomato with whole raw garlic without any seasoning and four pieces of bread that were hollow and some slices of cheap chorizo. Disappointing service from the beginning. The waitress was not friendly and she was very lost. We had to tell her four times that we wanted water without ice, and then she got it wrong. Ridiculous experience and a shame, as a person from Spain that I am. If you want to try real Spanish food go...
