Second time coming here and unfortunately it was after I praised and bragged how good they were and got some of my family to try them. We had a pretty large reservation (12 people) and was told they couldn’t accommodate all of us sitting together even though there was more than enough room in the booth area for us all to be able to sit with one another. COOL! We were the last to arrive and were given paper menus that quickly got soaked due to the table being extremely wobbly. At one point I had to tell my cousin to not place anything on the table to not have it shake like it was having a small tantrum. The vibe was nice again, really solid music playing so that wasn’t bad. The waiter we initially had took our drink orders and then completely disappeared. We sat and waited for another waiter to bring the drinks and it took sooo long my wife had to get up herself and get the drinks that were sitting for so long it had gotten watered down. So much for that auto gratuity. When explaining the menu, we were told that they were still only serving brunch (it was 3PM) and then they mentioned the catch of the day (didn’t even say what the actual catch was) only to tell us it wasn’t available on the brunch menu. The new bartender they had there DIMITRIS kept repeating a sad old tired joke when someone wanted water and he would ask for their ID. He did this a couple times and it was observed he did this apparently to get numbers? Idk it was weird. Food took so long that we all forgot what we ordered. Some other people’s food came out so quick that by the time they finished we STILL hadn’t gotten our food. Prices we paid don’t reflect the price on the menu. On the menu a tequila sunrise is $10, we paid $13 which isn’t a problem but there was not one mention that it was more. Craziest part at this point was that I ordered an alcoholic drink and NO ONE asked for my ID. Make that make sense. We finally got our food after about 45+ minutes and I’m not sure why it took so long there was only our party and 1 other table. Chicken and waffles was fantastic and someone at my table even said it was the best fried chicken he ever had in his life. Asked for syrup and the waiter gave us 1 for each person (I guess they’re rationing condiments). Eggs and the omelet were overcooked and had no salt or flavor which is disappointing. The first time I had got the tequila sunrise, I found a gnat in it and the bartender immediately made me another and it was delicious but things quickly went from meh to “Why in the hell did we come here?”. Whoever the servers are, didn’t split the check and put everyone on one bill. No biggie right? WRONG!! My cousin paid for his daughter and her husband which left us with the remaining balance which somehow was about $30 more than we ate for. We did the math adding our meals and the gratuity and the taxes and everything and it consistently totaled about $80 but we were presented a bill of $107. Which apparently still wasn’t right. No one seemed to understand how we were overcharged $28. When Blake did come to explain she was SO patronizing and I told her we’re not paying the extra $30 because it didn’t make any sense. Then in this middle of this whole thing which at this point has gotten worse and worse, the super annoying and obnoxious bartender asked us to leave a 5-star review. I think this guy’s drinking on the job because it’s no way in hell it was 5-stars. To be fair, he was welcoming and interacted well with the kids but it was way, way too much like chill and let us enjoy the food. No one seemed to enjoy it and we 10/10 WILL NOT RETURN. I probably won’t recommend this place and that’s a shame because the food was decent. Oh well,...
Read moreI cannot believe the appalling experience we had at Blake's Place. Despite being the first customers, we could only be seated at the bar due to their being reservations for the empty tables, we endured a 40-minute wait for our food, which was pretty good. When we requested separate checks at the bar, the bartender insisted on a manager's approval, who turned out to be a young white guy (only described this way because I didn’t ask his name). He initially claimed they couldn't split payments, only to later admit they could, but only down the middle. Unacceptable, considering we were seated at the bar and should never have been on a single check. He advised we must adhere to their policy; a policy not posted anywhere in the restaurant or on their menus. When I questioned if it was a written policy, he stated it was but it was in his office and he was too busy to go get it. Then, he acted as if he was calling the police, questioning if “we were going to pay the bill or not”. We told him we never intended on not paying the bill, we only wanted our individual check. After going round and round, he stated they could split the payment down the middle and we could figure out what we owed each other on our own time. We paid on one card and vowed never to return. After the manager walked off, a new employee, only two days on the job, contradicted the manager, emphasizing that he was years of restaurant experience and separate checks are common at the bar. Also, the “reserved” tables were still empty when we left. This experience was utterly disheartening and frustrating.
UPDATE: After my initial disastrous visit to Blake's Place, I decided to give it another try and have since been back two more times. I’m happy to report that the food remains absolutely delicious—consistent with my first visit. The flavors are on point, and each dish is a treat. The service, while not as bad as before, could still use some improvement. It’s not terrible, but there’s definitely room for enhancement to match the quality of the food. I haven’t even dared to try separate checks again after the previous ordeal, as I'm not convinced it would go any smoother. Despite these service hiccups, the food is what keeps bringing me back. If they could step up their service game, this place would be a top...
Read moreTaco Tuesdays is a date night that my husband and myself enjoy doing on a regular basis. We go all over the city eating tacos and enjoying the experience. I recently was on Instagram and saw the advertisement for Blake's Place (Black owned business) and their Taco Tuesday night. On 6/17/2025 we decided to visit Blake's Place for the first time. We arrived at 738pm and had a 40 minute wait to be seated. While seated outside and waiting for our table, a female patron came outside and appeared to be sick. (1st sign to leave). We finally were seated at 820pm. A male waiter finally came to the table after we had been seated for awhile . He was not personable or friendly and was in a rush (2nd sign). At 840pm, I called the waiter to the table to inquire about our drink order and he replied they are making it now (mind you 1 Coke and 1 Margarita). At 850pm, the waiter brought the drinks. Two patrons arrived after we were seated, and received their food before we received ours. While seated next to the other patrons, one of them tried to get the other one to smell the food (3rd sign). At 9pm, I was done and requested the tab for the two drinks. As I walked to the bar area to get the tab for the drinks, the waiter runs out from the back with our tacos. I told him and the bartender to keep them and we left. They did not charge us for the drinks. The Blake's Place should work on getting your drinks to the table sooner than 30 minutes, have friendlier waiters to take your order, make sure you get your food in a timely manner, and hire more cooks on your busy nights. First impressions do matter. The advertisement on Instagram. made it seem like an awesome experience but this was not the case for me. I hope...
