We came here on a recommendation, (unbeknownst to me). I'm glad we did. There is only street parking available, so its kind of tight. We got to the place a minute before they opened, (literally one minute) with no reservations, but they DO keep a table open for walk ins so it was a good thing we got there early, and it was a Sunday... I got a disorganized feel at first, but after we were seated, it was good. Our server..friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable was very cool. Our amuse bouche was deviled egg salad. Fantastic. A touch spicy, maybe paprika? Some dijon mustard/mayo combo with pickle slivers and egg flavor. Thoughrouly enjoyed. For appetizers, we had an order of Boudin Balls. 3 delightfully fried, tasty, well seasoned balls of goodness that have taken a "tied for first" best Boudin Balls in New Orleans with another local uptown restaurant. (Read my reviews to find out which other place is #1)!! Really good..great..super! A second was the Charcuterie Plate. WOW!! Um, let's start with the Hogs head soup steamed dumpling. The soup inside the dumpling was savory and rich, and the meat...perfect! Pork belly was also on the plate. Crispy, tasty and again, just sooo much flavor. Lap cheong sausage was on the plate, which is a dried Chinese sausage, very good. Finally, Beech mushrooms slightly seasoned, was also very good. My entree was St. Louis style Niman Ranch pork ribs and sticky sweet potato. The ribs were just minutes from fall off the bone, and really meaty, and with the delicious BBQ sauce, was excellent. The sweet potatoes were just fantastic, can't say I've had them quite like that before. Babycakes really liked the dumpling and boudin balls, too. She ordered off of the Prix Fixe Menu. Her entree was the Smoked Waygu Brisket with garlicky fries. Babycakes really loved the Waygu, although it's a lean meat, it was flavorful and juicy (I tried a bit). Fries with parmesan were great, too. Finally, the desert selections looked really good. I chose the Thai Chili Chocolate Chess Pie. Rich, deep chocolate flavor with a hint of spice....just perfect. Babycakes ordered the Chocolate Ganache Terrine. Delicate chocolate flavor, delicious! Great food, great service, really nice clean place. Highly...
Read moreWe've really liked Boucherie over time, which is why I would estimate we've eaten there more than 20 times over the past several years. We had a sub-optimal experience there nearly a year ago, but decided to give it another go last night. It was even worse. The whole experience felt "amateurish" for lack of a better description. The hostess was brutal. At arrival our first interaction with her was her saying "I'm helping some other people so just stand over there." Sour face, and not an ounce of a welcoming tone in how she dealt with us or other customers. She seemed like she didn't want to be there. After she brought us to our table, she then brought silverware and proceeded to place them in a different way for each person at the table (I don't really care whether my fork is on the right versus left, but it was all just really odd how she scattered the stuff in front of everyone). Then left a carafe of water on the table with no offering to pour water into everyone's glasses. We were given 9 different paper menu's and none of them were food menus...just a lot of duplicates of the beverage and wine offerings. Later someone came with the amuse-bouche, and said "we only have two" (there were three of us dining). When entrees came there was no silverware left on the table. The hostess was nearby and we asked her for utensils. They never came and we just got up and got them ourselves. The food was mixed. The brisket, boudin balls, and bread pudding remain standouts. I had what was supposed to be chicken and andouille gumbo with potato salad that appeared and tasted like "short rib soup" for lack of a better description. I've never seen chicken look like that and there was no potato salad. I thought they brought me the wrong dish but I couldn't find anything on the menu that seemed like what was delivered to the table. The waitress was authentically nice and did a good job of scrambling covering a lot of tables. But the coordination across the staff of people from the hostess to the people serving the food was just awful. We will never be back to Boucherie. There are too many good restaurants in this town to go there. I suggest...
Read moreIncredibly disappointed by our experience here. To begin our drinks took forever and we had to ask multiple times to receive them. So after our initial cocktail we ordered a bottle of wine. This was obviously forgotten by the waiter because we didn't not receive the bottle of wine until our entrees were delivered to our table. We were nearly done our bottle of wine, I still had half a glass left and we were planning to leave as soon as I finished when our waiter abruptly interrupted our meal telling us "look guys, y'all have been here a while and we're going to need y'all to leave because people are waiting and we need this table" as a former server of 7 years I'm very aware of what was going on around me and clearly could see one table had just walked in and had only been waiting about 5 mins. Regardless it is so distasteful to ask paying customers to leave a table when they're still not finished a bottle of wine we had ordered and waited forever on, paid $170 to eat, and tipped over 20%. When we called the waiter back to our table to ask if this is protocol for their restaurant to ask a table to leave because they have a wait, he responded incredibly rudely and told us we had been there 3 hours when we had been there for 2 hours and 10 minutes, the majority of that time spent waiting on him to bring items that were forgotten. We ended up calling the manager over where we barely received an apology on the waiters behalf.... saying "at the least he could've asked y'all to get up and grab a drink at the bar" They were incredibly unprofessional and due to this we will not be back. So disappointing. What could've been a great date night turned out to be a flop due to...
