Lawd lawd lawd EVERYTHING we ordered was AMAZING!!!!!! The statement never judge a book by it's cover truly applies when it comes to this place. Please do not get discouraged by the neighborhood or what the restaurant looks like. You must must must must try this place you will thank me later. From the friendly waitresses to the great meal you'll want to come back again and again I'm originally from Chicago but I now live in New Orleans not far from this place might I add I wanted to take my family who was visiting some place I've never been before. Now I knew my sister was going to turn up her nose when we got out the car. I told her this place has great reviews so don't start LOL. We all decided to order something different. I had the Superdome which is mashed potatoes on top of fish finished with onion rings and corn and a cheese sauce I believe oh my God so good my sister had the special and my cousin had The Bourbon Street Chicken on top of macaroni and cheese and I think a cheese sauce or crab sauce and my partner had the cabbage with fried chicken. When I say everything was good I mean everything was good. I have no complaints I mean no complaints. The chicken with seasoned to perfection. My fish was juicy and Flaky. I mean my mouth is watering just thinking about it. You can tell this food was cooked with love. Oh and don't let me forget the bread pudding that makes you want to slap Yo momma. Needless to say I will be back do yourself a favor and try this place. Oh and don't forget to try dat shyt its Tea and fruit punch mixed.. Dat shyt really is the shyt..lol!!! I can't reiterate enough how amazing this food was give it a try you...

Oops I did it again....we ate all our food before taking pics. :-( Fortunately, there are a lot of photos in google images. First tip: eat outside at one of the colorful picnic tables if you can!

We'd never been, so my husband and I shared two items--the Skeesh wings and the red beans with fried fish. The first bite I took was from the side salad that came with the beans. OMG the dressing is AMAZING!! I meant to ask if they sell it because it's just that good. Then I went on to try the wings, and they had a pleasingly different flavor and were perfectly crispy. The fries with them were fresh and seasoned, which was a great surprise because I like highly seasoned food. The red beans were also delicious with generous amounts of sausage cut up in them. The fish was cooked to perfection with equally perfect breading that was light, crisp and full of flavor. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing.

But then, we got the bread pudding to go. Just finished it in our hotel room. DO NOT CHEAT YOURSELF. Get this scrumdiliumptious dessert. The sauce is downright drinkable.

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Jeff and his daughter, who manages the restaurant. I feel terrible that I didn't get her name. We especially liked hearing that Jeff went out on a limb to open Heard Dat and that his and his family's hard work has paid off. We love it when local places thrive just because they serve excellent food and deliver impeccable service. Heard Dat is that...

If you've never been don't freak out wondering if its shutdown. You order inside and either take it togo or eat at the picnic tables.

The food was good but was no where near worth the price. I ordered the Bourbon street love, 1 thigh fried with I'd say 2 scoops of mac and sauce. Alone that was $17. Along w/ a order of fries (the amount barely filled a small togo box) that had cheese and sauce on it another $10. (I went to Jaegers the night before and ordered their Cindy fries, $8.95 3xs the fries, 3xs the cheese, 3xs the other ingredients. You can look at their menu and pictures of the size of fries plate for proof.) And 2 can sodas $1.50 each, the total came to be $33 before the tip. Hot lunches cost less, taste great, and come with more food.

Also don't expect any quality service, actually don't expect any at all. Their faces can easily tell u they don't want to be there and they don't care if you choose them or not. Yes if you asked the cashier a question about the food it was answered promptly but you didn't want to ask any follow up questions with the face the cashier had towards you.

The only reason I'd return is if on someone else's dime but even then I'd tell them to look for something cheaper. Eating outside was nice especially with the sun setting and cool breeze and the food was cooked right. But the absord price and "service" those 2 reasons are the reasons for the 3...

I will start by saying that we are serious food connoisseurs, great cooks, and love a good 5 star meal. With that being said, this food is great for a carry out but it is not restaurant-quality food (understandably because it’s not a restaurant). So if you are used to eating fast food and ordering from carry outs, you’ll likely love it and be impressed. If you are used to dining at high quality restaurants, you may not be impressed. We got the superdome, bourbon street love, and a side of skeesh fries & green beans. I loved the sauce and seasoning of the superdome, and the mashed potatoes were decent. Pretty good sized portions. The bourbon street love was okay, the Mac was below average in our opinion and didn’t have much flavor. Unfortunately the side of potatoes that was supposed to come with the Bourbon street love was missing so be sure to check your meal before leaving. The green beans were pretty flavorful. And unfortunately by the time we got to the fries, they were soggy and didn’t taste good at that point even with the skeesh sauce (which was an okay jelly based sauce at best). Again, good for a carry out but just not my preference. Be sure to call ahead because the wait is 15-20 mins. Staff was very pleasant when we were there.

If you live in New Orleans or are even just visiting, this spot is worth checking out! They have a very small menu but everything I've ever had from here has been delicious and cooked with LOVE. I have purchased a couple of groupons for 4 $10 off coupons and used every single one and then some....such a great deal! The seafood extravaganza blackened is the winner! The portions are very generous! Nice plump shrimp on top of whatever the daily fish is and a side of French fries smothered with a creamy, flavorful crawfish sauce! Soooooooo good! The restaurant is located in the hood, so I recommend going during the day, unless you're really trying to get an authentic central city experience. I'm usually not. I would describe Heard Dat as a "walk up" but they have outdoor seating out front as well as ample indoor seating around the back of the building. If you are looking for a no frills around the way spot with delicious local food, check them out.
