This review pertains to food on the Amtrak Crescent route from NOLA to ATL.
I didn't expect any vegan options on this trip, so we brought PBJ and bread, just in case. Since this was going to be a long ride, we booked two roomettes and were surprised to be handed a Flexible Dining menu that had a vegan option! And, the Cafe in coach has an option or two as well (the Asian noodle bowl was not available in the Cafe car during this trip). Here's a review of what I ate:
Kofta Kebabs (Flexible Dining lunch/dinner menu)
mild curry taste with sweet undertones from the raisins and carmelized onions kebab was meaty; not beyond or impossible-like, but flavorful (grilled taste) and great texture roll was warm, soft, and chewy meal comes with two dairy butter pats and two dairy ranch dressing packets
Vegan BBQ Burger (Cafe car)
I wish i could find these in stores When not overcooked, excellent meaty texture and soft, pillowy bun The flavor is smoky and sweet, while not being overpowering in the...
Read moreThe station is clean and orderly, security is alert and visible, ticket desk attendants are always kind and willing to answer any questions you may have. Having a Subway restaurant at the front of the station helps curb the overpriced Amtrak train meals ($8 for a cup of 75 cent microwave instant ramen?! Lol) because you can buy your meal and take it with you. Bathrooms are clean though there is a good 2 inches of open space on either side of the stall doors so don't expect privacy. đ I saw another reviewer that mentioned "people with mental disorders" around the station... đ€·ââïž I've never experienced anything similar on my 8 trips through, so I can't speak to that. (Not saying it doesn't happen, just that I haven't ever seen it personally.) Overall, I'd recommend this mode of travel to anyone and am thankful to have it as an option over a...
Read moreMy girlfriend's cousin came into town on a bus, 24 hrs of misery. So we bought her a train ticket when she had to go home. Leaving at 9am, we got there at 8:53am and was told it was last call for all aboard. I was going to help her with a large rolling suitcase but the police officer said it was too late. He took the bag himself and helped her get on. I was amazed and told him that i really appreciated it. I go out to my car and while I'm fiddling to connect my phone there's a tap on my window. It's the same officer. He says there's a bag that was left in my car, i glance around and there was a small carry-on behind the front passenger seat. I point and he grabbed it and ran before i could properly thank him. He was so helpful, above and beyond what i would've ever even thought possible. Truly a wonder of our...
