La Terraza — Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach

My family enjoy eating at Mexican restaurants. Most tend to be about the same -- decent enough to visit again, but nothing that stands out. But we had not found our local favorite...until today!

My son is a huge chips and queso fan. The white cheese dip was definitely yummy and above average. But what was a complete stand-out were the chips! These were not your ordinary out-of-a-bag chips, but had to have been homemade. They were warm and salty and really good.

I am a margarita connoisseur myself and thoroughly enjoyed the house frozen margarita. I don't know what was in it to make it taste different than the usual, but it was extra tart, just like I like it.

We got enchiladas, fajitas, and quesadillas and all were good and there was certainly plenty on the plates. The red rice was different than the usual yellow rice and had a nice flavor. One of the enchiladas could come as a veggie option and I did notice that there seemed to be more veggie options than normal on the menu. I tried the veggie enchilada and liked it and thought it would be extremely pleasant for vegetarians -- the veggies were not soggy, but fresh and more on the crisp side.

The atmosphere was very pleasant. Extremely clean, recently remodeled, bright and well decorated. The outdoor patio was covered and with fans and looks like a fantastic place to hang out. Most tables, even the inside ones, had a nice view of the water. It's not beachside, but it's still very pleasant to see the water from this second-story restaurant. We were also very pleased with the friendliness and attentiveness of the waitstaff.

We came to new Smyrna beach for 2 weeks. We’re half way thru our trip, we have eaten here 3 times. I can promise we will be back! If you’re thinking of coming to new Smyrna beach you have to stop here!!! The wait staff (shout out to Juan Pablo) Is the best around! Manager was super friendly and made sure our needs were put first. Bar tender makes good CONSISTENT drinks (we recommend the la jefa margarita and the santo mango) If you like sweet tea…. Thats some darn good tea as well!!! Our family got chimichangas, enchiladas, tamales and a few other things. No complaints!

Like spicy, they will help with that. Hate spice. They’ll offer items with no spice!

Truly the BEST OF THE BEST! Bar downstairs offers some after dinner drinks and live music. Ocean/beach views from the balcony

Only advice I would give is… get a bigger sign on the main drag! More people should know...

We’ve eaten here dozens of times. We love their taco Tuesday special. I especially like the birria tacos. My wife and I don’t eat beans or rice, so we opt for the grilled veggies, which are delicious. We’ve turned many of our neighbors onto the veggies as well. Can’t say enough good about the food and atmosphere. So why only 4 stars? Usually service is impeccable. Ask for Sarah (so?). On 2 occasions, we’ve brought parties of about 6-8 and received bad service because they assigned new personnel to our party. We had made reservations, so they could have prepared better. Giving a new waiter/waitress a larger party is setting them up for failure. Both times, management did apologize after and knocked some off the bill. I think both situations could have been avoided, but it’s not something that can’t be overcome. We’ll continue to visit one of our favorite local restaurants. Btw, the chips and salsa are delicious.
