Expectations were tempered, what could a tiny venue in a small town deliver? I was shocked! I have been to shows nationwide with paid performers and this was as good as them all. The chemistry in the cast of The Sound of Music made it a delight and a joy to watch. I found myself with a smile from ear to ear dozens of times. It is not broadway talent, but to be candid, the show was every bit as enjoyable! The scenes (background drops) were basic but hearwarming, the seating was cozy and intimate, the volunteers were superb and accomodating, the parking was adequate, the tickets were slightly under priced, the printed programs were charming. Overall, this has something more magical about it than the high budget production alternatives. The cast knew their parts, lines, and sang in complementary ways such that taking the show in its totality, I must give it 5 stars simply for the value delivered. I shook hands with the director and president and it is clear he is a gentleman and a class act. The head nun brought down the house, Maria had extemely believable facial expressions and pleasant vocals. The children were cast perfectly, and played their roles in 5 star fashion! I want to identify each of the children, the eldest girl has a great voice, the two middle daughters made me laugh out loud several times and played their parts perfectly. The two youngest girls were well cast, the second to youngest bashfully believable, and the youngest was adorable. Well done girls. The boys tied it together, my wife wasnt overly impressed with the voices but I LOVED them because it made it all the more believable to me as teen boys are often in a voice crack mode and if the actors are too polished it is less believable. Great job boys. Rolf has a great voice, well done! The maid and butler maintained the perfect level of snobbery. The soldiers were super well cast, the admiral was top notch and the others did great. The Uncle Max was slithery good and was amazing and injected humor which was both timely and well delivered. The wealthy prospective fiance did a very great job. Captain VonTrapp did a very fine job and his riggedness gave the character a very pleasant twist which was unexpected but noteworthy. The first song with all the Nuns made my wife and I smile out of the gate! Super Super Super well done! How do you solve a problem like Maria was superb as a chaser! The sets were good, the costumes were great for the children and good for the rest. Overall, great job cast and crew. I left surprised and delighted!!
The Sound of Music made me a believer in the New Smyrna Beach Little Theater and I plan to buy a season ticket. This is a tribute to the city, and I look forward to many more years of...
Read moreThe Little Theater of New Smyrna Beach has been a staple for my family and me for years now. We've held season passes for a while, and it's easy to see why. They consistently put on great shows, and it's become something of a tradition for us to attend.
One of the things I've genuinely appreciated is their commitment to showcasing local talent. It's nice to see familiar faces on stage, delivering performances that resonate with the local spirit. At the same time, they occasionally introduce us to new performers from outside the area, adding a fresh dimension to their line-up.
Overall, the Little Theater offers a blend of the familiar and the new, making each visit interesting. It's less about the grandeur and more about genuine, heartfelt performances. If you're in the Daytona Beach area and looking for a relaxed evening of good theater, it's worth dropping by. We've made some great memories there, and I bet...
Read moreAn excellent production of ‘The Game’s Afoot’ in an excellent and spotlessly clean theatre. Bear in mind everyone involved are all volunteers and the theatre was closed down for 10 months due to Covid restrictions, the outcome was a roaring success. New carpets were laid, internal and external walls were painted; a complete makeover. The play itself was a faultless performance even with the 8 actors wearing theatrical face masks. It was clear from walking in to leaving every possible detail had been thought through to make The Little Theatre a Covid secure environment. This was the first time we had experienced the theatre here and we can honestly say it is one of NSB’s prize gems. If anybody is thinking of getting involved in any thespian work then this is an ideal...
