China Star — Restaurant in New York

What you're about to read may be hard to believe!. On 3/22/2024, around 4 P.M., I ordered two egg rolls, an order of chicken with broccoli, and shrimp fried rice. They also gave me a free can of soda. When I got home and was ready to eat, I opened the egg roll bag and realized someone had taken a bite of my egg roll!!! You could see the teeth marks! The rest of the food looked good, but that!!! In the time of COVID! I could not possibly eat any of it after seeing that! Someone had to notice this before putting that egg roll in the bag! I refused to eat any of the food. I couldn't return it. It would be my word against the restaurant's. I threw all the food away! Needless to say, I'll stick to making my own food at home. I have a few very nice cookbooks. How horrible! And to know that I had bought food from there twice before through delivery without any issues I noticed made me sick thinking about that! You can't even sit down in there. They've got boxes all over the place. They don't even deserve the one star I gave them for preparing the food. Fresh Chinese food takes a while to prepare. Customers are often given frozen food that's been reheated at most neighborhood Chinese food restaurants. It certainly takes more than ten or 15 minutes!!! Stay home. Make something really safe and healthy! And when I was there, there were a bunch of teenagers in the kitchen joking around and laughing at customers whenever they entered the store. Very...

The only thing I can say is I remember when China Star came to Starrett City 25 years ago. The food was more on point at that time. Since then all they have done is take short cuts on the way they deliver a dish. Case point is when after a long time I decided to visit the location for a meal and hoped that they went back to following recipes the correct way. Today, I ordered the chicken and broccoli with white rice because that is the easiest to make the correct way. What I received is chicken and broccoli that was missing sliced carrots and ginger that is part of the recipe. The broccoli is supposed to be bright green and crunchy to the taste. Instead the ginger and the carrots were missing and the broccoli was "dark and wilted" because it was "over cooked". This is a basic chinese meal that completely missed the mark. Chicken and broccoli is a dish that is easy to make by anyone even in their own home. How is this something you have difficulty making correctly!? If cost is an issue for the correct ingredients I would rather be charged a little more to have it done correctly instead of taking short cuts for the same price. What I have noticed is that some people gave this location 5 stars when it did not deserve it. Maybe, it is because they don't know what the ingredients are suppose to be. If they did the rating would be lower. I guess it will be another couple of years before I eat there again. China Star should be referred to as "Falling Star"....

I don't know why or how this place has so many bad reviews but it's very suspicious. I've been to MANY Chinese places in this city and this is one of the best. All the classic dishes are at least as good, if not better than most places. BUT... The fried chicken is the bomb! More than half their business is fried chicken. If I don't have that chicken for a month I start thinking about it all the time. Nothing fancy, just cooked in the basket in the same oil they cook fries, egg rolls and fish in - maybe that's why it's so good. Maybe all these people are haters - the staff are far from racist. Probably 90% of the customers are black - and the place has been in business for like 40 years.They have problem customers for sure but they almost always straighten it out. Go to the lottery store or the liquor store on either side of them and you'll often find somebody arguing. You know how it is. The woman who runs the place finally starting saying hello to me only after I'd been going there maybe 10 years. That's just the way they are - the place is...
