I waited quite a while before giving this place a try, I even walked in on two separate occasions without ordering a thing. I was in search for some black rice and griot but it seems like even though everyone loves black rice, most Haitian creole restaurants don't make it regularly. Anyway, the first day I went there, over a month ago, I asked about the black rice and was told only on Thursdays. The guy actually seemed annoyed that I was even asking him questions, especially about the black rice. Out the blue, today, I remembered that they sold black rice on Thursday and it happened to be Thursday. I get to the restaurant around 11:30 a.m., prime, lunch time in the community. Most people have lunch between 11 and 1 over here. I enter, same guy that I spoke to over a month ago is there. Again, he seems annoyed by customers asking questions, specifically, about the black rice lol Maybe he isn't annoyed, maybe it's just his demeanor but that doesn't fly too long with customers in nearly established restaurants. They had a young lady there that appeared to have three demeanor and friendly vibe but she seemed almost startled to be around him and somewhat uncomfortable speaking. Odd. Well, the rice wasn't even available, at least not until 1 p.m. so I went back to work and returned at about 1:05 only to be told it still was ready and to give him a few minutes. Then after standing inside the store for 5 minutes while he service customers sho came in after me and one before me, he went into the back only to ask me if I could wait 15 more minutes. I told him no, and after about 7 more minutes he emerged with the black rice. Finally, reviews are about the service but most importantly the food, so here it is: . The griot was good, not great. The sauce that was tossed on it, was very good... and the black rice was ehhhh blah. Wasn't packed with flavor as I'm used to. No shrimp flavor nor shrimps in it. It had good color but they used long grained rice instead of short grain, jasmine rice. Seems specific, but everytime that I've had it elsewhere and it was great, it has always been short grain, jasmine. They also packed it with green peas. That's not a flavorful veggie. If I could give it 2.5 stars overall, I would but since I can't, I' rounded up to 3 instead. I'll continue to run with Porto-o-Prince on Linden instead. No black rice but much more flavorful food, much larger portion for their lunch special, no fee for using your card and the lunch special is $8 and could feed 2 people easily compared to Fusion's $9 which is enough for 1 person. For$11 at Porto o Prince you could get the large meal and feed 4 people. I...
Read moreIt hurts me to write this type of review but as another customer previously mentioned if you don’t speak creole the staff has an attitude! I have been here numerous times the food is always delicious but the last three times my boyfriend went to purchase food here he complained to me about staff giving him and his friend attitude. He doesn’t speak creole like me. Today he went in with his friend and purchased our usual which is a large tassot with fried plaintains and always come with a salad and sometimes Mac and cheese. Today it appears he was only given fried plaintains and tassot and the portion was smaller than what we normally order and their was no salad or sauce or pikliz. My boyfriend said he will never step foot at this establishment again and honestly I feel bad about it because we want to continue supporting our community. Many times people start a business and hire different types of people but please keep in mind in order to retain customers and their loyalty’s the customer service must always be the same regardless of who is there. Your staff is a representation of your business which is also a reflection of the owner. In order to expand and keep the business flourishing we Must ensure that respect and appreciation for our patronage is given. I hope that the owner takes a look at this review and have a real conversation with your staff and not just reply back to this review saying it will be fixed. Actions speaks louder than words. Again I feel disappointed that I had to write this, but change started with...
Read moreIn all honesty I would rather give this place a 1star but for the simple fact that the food is so tasty ,,,I just won’t do that. As a Haitian myself it’s your typical hole in the wall,,, no decor/ bad decor type of place. I went in and was not greeted and if looks could kill, that is how the female staff servers were looking at me. Another thing that upset me was that the menu board was written in bright highlighter colors, no formal restaurant awning type of font. My Haitian ppl don’t understand that the lack of care and honor to an establishment is what gives a everlasting 1st impression. I mentioned all that was wrong to this 1 staff lady and she looked at me as I could read her mind saying like “bitch whatever just hurry up and pay n get tf out lol”. I strongly assume that she was saying that. When I got there it seemed that there was 2types of rice and 3types of meat, and also lots of empty trays. (So mad there was no mushroom Riz) Maybe I came to late in the day which was about 6pm when they close at 9pm. Other than my above complaints I would say the food is very fl@vorful and well seasoned. Though they can ease off of the spicy ness in the pork. But “DO NOT,,I REPEAT,,,,DO NOT GET PATE FROM HERE”. They do it the fake way and use the already made dough from the Hispanic Patelito frying discos. When really they should do their patties from scratch like a real French Haitian bakery would do in like a an bon pain type of way. My fake pate which they gave me looked like it was 4days old and was...
