Cookerz Blend — Restaurant in New York

I was going to a show at the UBS arena and I love getting dinner and drinks before a show. I was looking for something in the area. We went to another establishment initially and while waiting around with out being updated on the actual wait time we called Cookerz and were informed there was no wait. We walked the few blocks down and were seated immediately. There was only one other person at the bar. I really thought I was on vacation in Jamaica. The paint colors, the dj (playing HITS!), and the ceiling.. just the entire vibe. I hesitated drinking the water with ice because I forgot were I was lol we viewed the menu using the QR code on the table (we were able to pay using that as well). We let the gentleman know we were in a bit of a rush and he took our orders and confirmed everything before going to work on our drinks. He gave suggestions and was pleasant and personable.

I ordered the escovitch fish tacos, rum punch, and French fries. The tacos came with 3, the fries were crispy, flavorful and hot. The rum punch was a hefty serving and it was tasty and delicious. It was strong but truly tasted like punch. My friends ordered the jerk chicken tacos, oxtail, fried chicken with oxtail gravy, rice and peas, steamed veggies, and passion fruit margaritas. Everything was tasty and a good portion size. There were no complaints. They brought everything out in a timely fashion and we didn’t hear any “we nuh ‘ave dat”. lol A few people came in to pick up to go orders and about 2 more people came in by the bar but it was really low key for a Friday night. Maybe it gets more crowded later in the night but I’d definitely come back before the next UBS event I attend. I was pleasantly surprised with this...

I had the oxtail and rice and peas and I truly do not know or understand how this restaurant has such a high rating. The rice is mushy and have a weird after taste , it’s also HEAVILY dosed with ginger. I mean if you guys used coconut milk, pimento seeds , thyme & a lil piece of scallion in the broth prior to adding in the rice , it would do a great deal of good being that you would not need ALOT of ginger. I should not have to be spitting out my food because I’m chewing on chunks of GINGER!!!!! you’re supposed to let EVAPORATE when you’re boiling the peas. I’m really so mad I wasted my money. I was looking so forward to having this based of reviews and ewwww… I ended up going to a bar and getting some chicken wings instead… paid ONLY $20 for a drink and some wings somewhere else , when I just spend $21.23 on not authentic oxtails. The oxtail was STRAIGHT BONE. The oxtail was not properly tenderised . You can’t even try and get the lil piece of meat off of it , without the sides of bone STABBING YOU/ poking the roof of your mouth. 😡😡😡 The food doesn’t taste authentic at all , the oxtail flavour tastes as if it was just tossed in water with no additional spices. Some people clearly loves it , however if you’re looking for traditional oxtail go else where. As a Jamaican born person .. 0/10. Definitely not recommended. Also you’re supposed to change the hot pepper in the pot BEFORE it bursts !!!! And there was hair strands in my food. My hair is NOT BLACK so it’s not mine. Everything was sooo good 😊Had a business meeting with my business partner was very pleased; Food, drinks, service, atmosphere quiet and peaceful Friday night .. everything on point I love it so proud of owner and dear beloved Moe Olivier built from ground up🥲 The waitress took care of the last crowd all by herself she is amazing one woman show ❤️ she even did uber and door dash deliveries...it was well worth the wait👑God bless her and the chef, and staff! The oxtail sauce over the rice with jerk chicken and plantains is our fav(⁠ʘ⁠ᴗ⁠ʘ⁠✿⁠) Rum punches always hit and waitress made us a chopped salad when she ran out of vegetables, we gave her extra tip for working so hard over and beyond I couldn't believe my eyes! We will def be coming back to have business meetings and eats .. affordable prices and well litt room also family friendly restaurant..my kids love it here!
