Giacomo Fine Foods is one of those rare neighborhood spots that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto a secret and then you realize the line out the door means everyone else already knows.
It’s got an old-school, old-world vibe somewhere between classic NYC deli and tiny European café. Like, if the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld actually liked people and made sandwiches instead. The place is small, but don’t let that fool you they’re serving fine food (frittatas, killer sandwiches, solid salads, and yes, even bacon-egg-cheese elevated).
I’ve been basically taste-testing my way through the entire menu since moving to the neighborhood and haven’t hit a single miss. Every sandwich? Fire. Even the coffee? Weirdly amazing. I don’t know what they’re putting in it, but I’m not asking questions.
The staff is clearly the family who owns it, and it shows in the best way. There’s warmth, humor, and just enough no-nonsense to keep the line moving. They know their neighbors and welcome the newbies (hi, me). Whether you’re a soccer mom, political elite, or just trying to survive your Tuesday they treat everyone with kindness and quick service.
That said bring cash. This is one of those Upper West Side joints where cash isn’t just accepted, it’s respected. Apple Pay might work, but if you want a smoother time and a knowing smile, cash is king.
It’s fancy and not at the same time. It’s real. And it’s damn delicious. One star off only because I wish payment was more seamless but I also kind of love that it isn’t....
Read moreGiacomo's holds a very special place in my heart. Located next to West End Superette (corner store at W 72nd St and West End Avenue) and within walking distance to the 1,2,3 trains, Giacomo's is the epitome of a great UWS neighborhood spot. In the spring when the morning weather is nice, nothing beats grabbing a coffee and toasted sesame bagel w/ Nova and cream cheese from Giacomo's and reading in Riverside. Grab a Boylan soda and one of their speciality sandwiches for lunch (my favs are the Hand Carved Country Ham w/ Swiss, the Cordon Bleu, and Cubano) and head to Verdi Square to people watch. Highly recommend a number of their soups and chilis when the winter weather rolls in.
Stop in and let Joe, Omar and Sylvia take care of...

This place will go unnoticed along your route in the upper west side. There's no flare, no outlandish signs, and I think the food speaks to why this place has been in business for so long.
Don't expect any bells and whistle's here. It's a sandwich shop with a dozen signature's to choose from. He makes em quick, and comes out hot every time.

The bread? Sooo good, definitely ranks right up top with any place that comes across your instagram feed. Let me tell you give this...
