I would have to agree with those reviewers who warned against staying at this hotel. While I experienced the staff (and especially the cleaning staff) to be very kind and helpful, they couldn't make up for structural issues with this hotel and its poor management. For my room, I paid more than 400USD per night, and got the experience of a sad, tired budget hotel with minimal amenities. It seems that a large number (perhaps a majority?) of their rooms have very little natural light and look at another building's wall. The room I was first assigned was so small I couldn't open my suitcase nor hang my clothes, and it had two windows which were both just a few meters away from a brick wall. If you care about your accommodation, this is the kind of room that can completely ruin your stay in NYC. When I complained, a kind receptionist said they only had one other room with any kind of natural light (the room change was for an extra fee, of course). While I was staying at the hotel, I overheard two more people at the reception complaining about their rooms; in their case they had apparently paid for larger and more expensive rooms but got a 'downgrade' when they checked in. Even after I moved to a more expensive room, it was simply ugly: no decoration at all and ugly, low quality furniture organized without much logic. ||||I was told that breakfast was included in my price - but there is no breakfast to speak of in this hotel. It's a small café where you can only order plain black coffee (no latte or cappuccino!) and a croissant, sometimes bagel if you're lucky and they haven't run out, and that's it. ||||A word of warning: when you check out and ask them to help you organize a taxi to an airport, they will try to push their own car service, with a flat rate at least 20-30USD over what yellow cabs will charge. ||||There were some positive sides: location and, as I said, lovely cleaning staff who kept the room in a very good and clean condition. But it is outrageous that a hotel with such low standards can pass for 4 stars and keep charging this rate. If you want to stay in this amazing area of NYC, explore nearby hotels like Lucerne or Belleclaire, and give Arthouse a...
Read moreIf you are looking for a hotel that will charge you $500+ for a room you cancel within a few hours of booking it this is your place! Booked via their additional room listings on Airbnb and CONTINUALLY got the runaround from their VERY mediocre and useless staff when I asked they refund me the full cost of the booking upon cancelling it two hours after I made the resi...
I booked and almost immediately asked the person to cancel it upon being notified by staff that the person I booked it for could not check in since I personally booked it on my account and it was their policy to only allow those that booked the room to check in (which is conveniently VERY hidden within the bottom of their posting - probably to pull this money grab on unsuspecting family members booking for loved ones).
10/10 recommend this place if you hate yourself and want to spend countless hours messaging back and forth just to be answered with the same copy and paste answers they send anyone. When I asked to be put in contact with a manager to discuss my extenuating circumstances since I booked the room at 10pm for that night and cancelled in the chat at 12am the guy promptly continued with his circular conversation of saying he couldn’t do anything since he was not the one in charge for almost a week (~after about a dozen messages from me).
Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I have reached out to their customer service on Airbnb and just recently attempted for them to contact me directly on their hotel website to no avail.
Beyond pissed because I ended up paying for one single night twice (once on Airbnb and again with my relative using their card for the SAME night in person at the hotel itself).
UPDATE: I sent an email to someone who I was in contact with at the hotel back in April with all relevant info the person below requested. Never heard a SINGLE thing back. 10/10 for shitty follow up and customer service. They comment on these reviews pretending to be interested in rectifying what was done poorly by them, but when it comes down to it they just ghost you and run off...
Read moreWe just spent 15 days at this location. During our stay we had positive and less than positive aspects. While it was a beautiful hotel with a great view (we had a balcony) the room inside was small - thank goodness we had the balcony for some space.
I will agree with others in that it is in a good location for many things to do in NY and the subway is only a 2 block walk.
Our cons: We were notified upon check in that a deposit of $2100 was required for our stay - $150/night of the stay. This was the first that we had heard of this (we expected to have to put a card on file as is normal for any hotel stay any where - but to actually put down an actual deposit - this was surprising especially as I witnessed others checking in and only being asked to place a credit card on file and not actually having to place an actual deposit down - and yes I asked for clarification between a card on file and an deposit - they restated it was a deposit but I would get it back less room charges and damages - which they did reduce to only $800 for the length of our stay - I really feel that we were profiled as we definitely do not look the part of their "typical" clientele and was very much made to feel like it - lots of attitude from the person checking us in and the manager overseeing the deposit adjustment). Night staff was much more personable and friendlier than the day staff. We were also notified upon check in that they do not do daily room maid services and if we wanted it we would have to schedule it 24 hours in advance - while strange not that big of a deal (another first world problem I know) - so we set up maid service for every other day figuring it would cover towel and toilet paper needs and keep the room clean. It was a struggle to keep clean towels and toilet paper in the room - we still had to call and request several times for each to be delivered to the room and sometimes multiple calls for a delivery of either to the room.
Overall not a bad experience however upon our travels back to NY in about 6 months we will try another location...
