This is the kind of place you don't tell others about out of fear it will lose the close knit community vibes. The store looks like one of those kisasikdang(driver's diner) tucked away in the margins of Seoul or a corner no one knows about. The owners are very proud of their food (don't ask for yeolmoo guksoo before it's hot summer, they might give you a friendly sass about how eating food that is in season is important) and it shows in the flavor profile. Don't come here expecting white tablecloth service, but if you grew up eating jipbap(home cooked meals) you will taste the love and care poured into every menu and little banchans. Today I got loach kalguksu, which I've never seen anywhere else, and it was so warming and delicious. I can't compare because I've only had loach here my whole life, but others who are familiar with the dish say their loach tang is better than in Korea. My friend who had yukgaejang also had a great meal--it was not super salty or full of msg(often the case in other restaurant) and full of beef and veggies. I also love their duck BBQ (make sure to get makgeoli to go with it) but they only do BBQ for dinner.

TLDR: If you're looking for that local hole in the wall - this is a great spot. Stick with the soups and definitely get that spicy pork bulgogi aka jaeyuk bokkeum. It's tiny and it's a husband/wife team, so if you're trying to be in/out; not the place for that. I've been back twice and I loved it both times. The dakgaejang (spicy chicken soup) was one of my favorite things. The broth is very flavorful and there's a lot of spice in it. They have some more traditional soups like the black goat or loach. So if you're in a soup and rice mood, this will hit. Definitely get the jaeyuk bokkeum. The way they slice the pork here and stir-fry it with the larger onion dice - it's very unique and just so good. NYC needs more places like this. I will return again for sure and try some of the other items on the menu.

We got a little upset about a sushi spot in Flushing and visited Haneul Babsang randomly when we were hungry. The decor is humble with cozy ambiance and the staff was hospitable. There were a lot of options on the menu but BBQ is only available for dinner. Their Banchan wasn’t in a great variety but it’s overall decent. We had Beef Short Ribs Soup and Hot Pot Bulgogi. The portion was good with a reasonable price. It’s extremely delicious and satisfying especially in this chilling day.
