I’ve been a student at Lotus Club BJJ in Flushing for about 2 months. My experience at Lotus Club has been nothing less than exceptional. After moving away from the city I thought it would be better to attend a school closer to home. I Googled “BJJ near me” expecting to find a school further East or West of Flushing, but I was surprised to discover there was a BJJ school in the heart of Flushing! I reached out to Professor Andy and he warmly invited me to his school for a free trial class. Here was my experience on Day 1:
I arrived at 6:30pm to introduce myself and warm up. I was warmly greeting by Professor Andy who was very polite and personable. The class started exactly at 7pm. There were less than 20 students with a good mix of males and females. During the first 20 minutes we performed stretches, warm-ups and exercises involving BJJ moves like bridging and shrimping. The next 40 or so minutes were devoted to learning a new techniques(s) along with drilling them. The last 30 minutes were reserved for rolling. I was really surprised by the high level of instruction and attention to detail. I was most surprised by how involved Professor Andy was with correcting our technique. Coming from a big school, the Professor(s) would be to overwhelmed with students to go around and inspect everyone. Not here, not at Lotus Club BJJ. I never felt like I was left alone. I have to add that my fellow classmates were incredibly nice and so willing to help me. This was a great Day 1... experience.
Currently… I’m having a blast! Classes just keep getting better. I can’t wait until classes start. I wish I could go every day, but due to work I can only squeeze in 3 classes a week. Recently, Professor Andy added Kickboxing classes. I attend those too. Both BJJ and Kickboxing classes ARE LOADS OF FUN! I’m having so much fun learning to defend myself, losing weight, making new friends and being part of a great...
Read moreThis gym deserves 5 stars! I’m a beginner in BJJ and struggle to memorize and perform moves on others.
I was so overwhelmed with all these difficult concepts like mount, kimura, and americana, but Professor Andy always shares his knowledge with us patiently. He points out the small details that can make a big difference in a move, even though I’m still working to get it right 😂. I always bug him with my silly newbie questions, but he always spend time to answer and demonstrates the move. You can tell he has a great passion for this sport. The vibe and energy in this gym is also a HUGE HIGHLIGHT as everybody is so keen to help me out 🥹, which helps me a lot in my BJJ journey...
Read moreI just finished my first week of class here at lotus club and I can’t wait to start my second. I came in with no experience whatsoever, so I thought it would be an intimidating atmosphere but master Andy and all the other students are so welcoming and friendly that I felt comfortable right away. To go along with learning self defense/martial arts, it is also an incredible workout. I’m drenched in sweat after class. There are students at all levels and all have been so helpful. I give lotus club 5 stars and I definitely recommend as well as encourage anyone who’s curious about martial arts to give this...
