Honestly, I came here because BCD has shut down their Northern Blvd establishment but I was surprised at how good the food was. I still prefer BCD but this place is a good alternative. In fact, I think the menu here offers slightly more tofu soup options as well as different dishes (in the case your party doesn’t all want tofu soup).

We ordered a clear oyster tofu soup (no spice whatsoever) and la galbi combo as well as a hot beef tofu soup. We were happy to see that they offered purple and white rice options so we both opted for the purple rice. The side dishes were plentiful and my partner enjoyed all of them though I thought they were all a bit sweet. The oyster soup had a good amount of oysters and was very full flavored for a “clear soup”. If you can’t take any heat but still want flavor, I’d recommend getting the clear option for any of the tofu soups. The la galbi was a bit too well done and thus chewy but the flavor was amazing. The glaze had the right balance of sweetness to make it addictive. The hot beef tofu soup was very spicy. I can take a lot of heat but I still like to taste my food so I was surprised at how spicy the the hot level (second spiciest level) spiciness was. I can only imagine how spicy the next and top level would be. Nevertheless, the hot level of spice was perfect for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it with the purple rice. The tofu was soft, the beef chunks were tender, and the soup warmed...

Craving some Korean cuisine, I stumbled upon Tofu Story as one of my options. It appears that Tofu Story attracts local Koreans in the area which suggests that you can expect a genuine Korean dining experience. As I was seated, I noticed that the menu items here were a lot pricier in comparison to other establishments such as BCD (total ended up being over $70 after tips). A unique aspect to this particular restaurant is your choice of white or purple rice (a nice touch as I was not expecting that). Opting to dine in with my party, we ordered two combos: LA Galbi + Pork Soon Tofu Combination ($32) & Spicy Stir-Fried Pork Belly + Assorted Mushroom Soon Tofu Combination ($29). Unfortunately, the LA Galbi fell short of my expectations. However, the Spicy Stir-Fried Pork Belly was flavorful and so I ended up ordering an extra portion to-go for dinner. The side dishes provided were a lot better than the side dishes served at other establishments and featured pickled mustard greens, potato salad (unfortunately missing from the to-go order that I ordered) kimchi, snow peas, eggplants, bean sprouts and fish. Overall, Tofu Story offers a decent dining experience with some hits and misses. Although, it is unlikely that I will be returning here anytime soon as the prices were a bit too much on...

Gotta love the gamjatang here, they are one of the best around! I ordered the Kimchi gamjatang (#3 on the menu) to share, which was plenty for 2. The soup base was thick and hearty, and full of flavor from the pork bone. Once the soup is brought to a boil, it takes about 5-10 minutes before it is ready to serve. I prefer mine cooked slightly longer to allow the starch from the potatoes to break down, making the soup thicker. The menu has many items that I didn't get to try, I noticed that there is also jokbal; will definitely come back one day and try it.

For those who drink, the soju here is 4 dollars a bottle, which is pretty much being...

Literally our favorite Korean place in queens. My cousin siblings and I come here all the time - their side dishes are not stingy, can be refilled again and again, and very diverse. All in true korean hospitality fashion! I personally recommend the fish cake, the kimchi cucumber and the orange sweet shrimp (the last dish is only available during dinners). The rest is all well priced and so tasty! Ergh to die for! Also if this is your first time having rice in stone bowls for dinner, make sure to ask for tea in the leftover rice (it's another favorite dish for Koreans) Update: they have added diff side dishes now that my boyfriend is a fan too
