I've been a loyal customer of this establishment for quite some time, and recently, I noticed a significant change – it's now under new ownership. This revelation was evident in the complete transformation of the food quality. I had heard about the renowned chef Hoon, who has garnered a stellar reputation in the Flushing area. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that he now leads this establishment. I decided to explore the menu and tried the Live Fish Sushi Set, Live Octopus, Udon Noodle, and Crab Soup. To be perfectly honest, it's been years since I've tasted Korean-style sushi this remarkable. The last time I had such a culinary experience was during my time in Korea, over 15 years ago. It was a nostalgic moment to rediscover flavors from my youth. While Dok Do Ya on Northern Blvd is certainly commendable, Jeju Island's offerings surpass it in taste. For those unfamiliar with Korean sushi, it presents a wholly different and delightful experience compared to its Japanese counterpart. Once you savor the dishes here, you'll find it hard to return to traditional Japanese sushi. You have my utmost...
Read moreI had the worst experience at jejudo. I wanted to treat my mom out on a sushi date for lunch. So I got the most expensive thing on the lunch special list, on a weekend price. The quality of sushi was terrible. It was cut into thick ugly pieces, that looked like it had been out for days on display. The table next to us ordered a more expensive dish because they had more people. Their sushi looked totally different, beautiful fresh and they had water on their tables before me and my mom. We got there before them and we didnt even have basic utensils and water on our table. Is it our fault that we want to eat lunch special sushi? Do we deserve different quality fish that is not fresh because we have less people and are spending alittle less? We are ordering the same raw fish, but how come the quality of our fish is stepped on while the other tables is perfect? Again, I am not talking about portion, but I feel that jejudo's quality of fish depends on portion, which is really unfair and terrible...
Read moreWent there yesterday and ordered the 50 dollar, letter B option for sushi.
When you first enter, it stinks like fish...likely due to the open seafood tanks by the door. They have a large air filter sitting next to the tank as well, didn't seem to be doing anything.
After 5 minutes, I got used to the stink.
The appetizers that came with the sushi was excellent (soup, corn, steamed egg). The sushi came with 2 rolls, of normal quality. The sushi itself was the problem. It was chewy, like rubber. I'm no sushi connoisseur but I'm pretty sure that's unacceptable. The tuna was also fishy. All of the sushi tasted stale and the size was small. It just wasn't a nice experience.
To top it off, had an upset stomach afterwards.
I feel like this place has potential, but the food quality just wasn't there on my...
