When I first went in the establishment, I was a little skeptical. The inside looked fairly old, and there was no menu to be seen; it seems this is because they vary some of their entrées and sides day to day except for their staple jerk chicken (this makes me assume that they actually care about the food they make and are more authentic, but its just a speculation). However, the lack of a menu was no problem. Since the staff was so nice and accommodating, they gladly showed me all the available food one by one and told me the price of what I wanted to order. I asked for a larger size platter, but I would've gotten a smaller size if I had known how generous they were with the servings beforehand. I got a large platter of jerk chicken, rice and peas, collard greens, and an empenada on the side, totaling about 18$ (13$ large platter, 4$ empanada), which compared to the jerk restaurants I have previously been to, was great value. The jerk chicken was nice and juicy, the greens went well with the rice, and the empanada with their sweet sauce was amazing! Definitely worth their hype, and I for sure will revisit them in the future to try out the other options.
Tldr; great value, generous portions, delicious food, and very friendly staff. But just be aware that there is no physical menu...
Read moreLet me just apologize for underestimating a place with the title KING in the name...I wish I wasn't such a skeptic because I've missed out on so many delicious meals. Jerk King is KING...the food is delicious its like getting a full plate at your "Uncle who can cook"s house. I love the fact that it's two brothers running this place, I don't know about you but I love being able to support black men doing business in my community. Portions are perfect!!!! as someone who tracks protein (I need about 200grams a day) this place is definitely the most reliable option if I'm not trying to cook. Rockaway is a food desert so it's such a blessing to have a place like this where you can get a delicious home cooked meal that you dont gotta cook your self. Jerk King is pretty new to the block but its definitely going to be a community sample ya hear me!
Side Note: thank yall for feeding my family the other night even tho we came like 20 min. Before closing we appreciate the Customer service and the willingness to make sure everyone gets...
Read moreI moved here recently and have been trying out the restaurants in the area. I saw “Jerk King” on Google Maps and the reviews were positive!
When you enter the restaurant vicinity, you can smell the food cooking and see the smoke rising from the grill out front. Walking into the restaurant, you’re greeted with a smile and a warm welcome.
Some polite conversation and mentioning that it was my first time earned me a sample plate of rice and peas with Thai sweet chili fried fish — along with a warm welcome to the neighborhood. I ordered the oxtail, rice and peas, and cabbage. I had never had callaloo before, and he gave me some to try with my meal-and it was really good!. And guys… he was NOT stingy with the oxtail gravy on the rice 😩😩.
Let’s just say I demolished the fish dish when I got home (still crispy btw), and I’ll be saving the oxtail for tomorrow 🥰 (though I had to sneak a taste — it was fall-off-the-bone amazing!).
Will definitely be...
