Queens Public Library at Far Rockaway events — Attraction in New York

My experience here was absolutely awful! For starters, as soon as I walked in the door, the staff were cold and somewhat creepy. Especially a man, who kept staring at me and the person I came with. We looked around for awhile, and were very disappointed by the lack of variety in the books. Before it was renovated, the library here had a much bigger selection. Far Rockaway community members have waited years for a new library, and this is honestly such a letdown. Another thing I noticed was the smell of PISS! When I sat down, I noticed the whole area had a sharp, sour smell to it which just ruined the experience for me and my friend. Some of the books were sticky and in poor shape, with weird stains, which is just not something that needs to be in ANY library, especially not a new one. Overall, my time here was wasted in this library, run by rude, creepy people who don't care about their community and the library that we've waited so long to...

The white lady librarian with the bun talks down to Black people. She was rude to me and spoke to me as if I were unintelligent when I asked for help finding a book, even though I didn’t know the full title. She treated me like I was stupid just because I couldn't remember the title, and made a huge show of correcting me. Her tone was condescending and disrespectful.

I never said anything about the incident, but today I watched her upset another black lady who started yelling at her and mentioned her horrible personality. As someone who's experienced that personality first hand, I felt sorry for that black lady. I go there regularly and all the other staff members have been respectful, so I think it is just her. Something really needs to be done.

As far as the building itself. I wish it was bigger and stayed...

Giving this library 1 star because it’s very small and I mean very small! Go somewhere else honestly.. The book section upstairs is soooooo small. Barely had any books on business or pregnancy. A lot of people there are just hanging out taking up space. I also was using the bathroom and a roach was coming at me high speed 😭. I also couldn’t use the computers in the teen rooms even though upstairs was full with adults on the computers. So much for a room full of computers that you can’t use. I highly feel this library is a waste of space and just decoration honestly. They could have hired someone to design the library so much more better and with better space to add more books and usage...
