So, if you're looking for authentic Haitian Baked goods and foods, this is the best spot in NYC, bar none. They've made some upgrades like accepting credit cards (Finally) and the food especially the Pattés (Signature item) are five star caliber all the way. I don't like the fact that their prices have slightly increased since their early days but that's to be expected and it's not the reason I took away a star.
The reason for the loss-of-stars is their customer service. The staff demeanor is generally not pleasant and they have some bad habits like carrying on side conversations while you wait or speaking in such a low voice that you question what just happened but you don't want to cause problems that'll lead them to going all "Soup Man" on you (They won't). Ignore the lack of customer service skills. Whatever day you go, just go early (before 12 or 1 pm) to avoid the lines of customers and to get a chance at parking for a minute.
In addition, their credit card service/machine goes out every so often. When that happens they'll direct you to use their ATM which costs a staggering $3.75 per transaction. So a 10% surcharge on like an order of $30+ dollars as is what happened on my last visit.
Regarding parking, don't double park. The NYPD are cracking down on that (and it's just plain annoying that people block an entire lane). If you go early enough during the day, you can park, buy and leave in a reasonable amount of time. All these issues aside, GO. The food is addictive. ...
Read moreI placed an order online on their website 12/7 for pickup on 12/ 9. I don't live in Queens and ended up sick so I couldn't pick up the food. I went the next day on Sunday. After looking up the information the gentleman brought me the food I ordered and told me to get well soon. Very nice. I ordered beef and chicken patties and cashew tablets. In the store I also picked up picklez and rolls. My boyfriend got a lemonade. The lemonade was good. Not overly sweet. My kids really enjoyed the cashew tablets. The kids thought it would make a great ice cream flavor. The bread was really good. They made warm sandwiches to try it and it was tasty. The patties were a hit. The only complaint was there wasn't enough filing. The dough to filling ratio was way off. I took a couple bites before I tasted any meat. What gives the patties rave reviews is the flavor of the fillings. It was definitely well seasoned and bursting with flavor. I would give 1000 stars if they add some more filling. I would even just buy the...
Read moreRead more9/23/18 the soup joumou was absolutely DISGUSTING!!! They used to make excellent soup, what happened?!?!?!? They must have gotten cheap and cut corners!!!! The soup had no squash flavor, it was just orange. There was only 1 piece of beef inside and OMG the flavor and broth of the soup tasted like canned tomatoes!!!! My husband and I were highly disappointed!!!! If there is a new cook they need to be fired immediately!!! That authentic Haitian expectation was murdered by my experience today! Even the chicken patties tasted a bit "odd". What is going on?????!!! I dont see myself going back there. I'll stick to La Baguette on 191 Jamaica and the one on location on Linden Blvd. Get it together people.....I would come for many yearsssssss and this is the 1st time the patties were not up to par and the soup was 100% atrocious !!!!! Owner and workers please taste it to see what I am talking about. 6 months ago I gave a 5 star rating, but no way today was a shock and complete let down!...
