I used to come to Mike Jrs. almost everyday when I came back from seeing my mom in the hospital.
The food there was pretty good for what it was. The fries were good and the chicken tenders were nice when they weren't overcooking it. Meanwhile their honey mustard was really good and the onions were nice too. I also say the mozzerella sticks were decent to above average. One weird thing about this place is that it apparently has the worst pickles on Staten Island. Enough for my friend to comment that they have, "market value pickles," which he later clarified meant that they have the cheapest possible pickles.
The major problem with this place were the staff. They frequently were a detriment to the experience. I remember, one time I wanted to look at the ceiling and reflect on the childhood I enjoyed with my mom, only for them to tell me to not look at the ceiling. After a few minutes, they clarified it was a joke but it definitely dragged down the experience.
After seeing I was a dedicated customer, they decided that from now on, I have to call them if I want to come to the place. That was the beginning of the end of my visits there. I had far deeper things on my mind every night rather than calling them. I always did but at that rate they always badly overcooked the meals and having the food immediately ruined my favorite part about the diner: The atmosphere. My favorite part about Mike Jr's was just relaxing there and now they took that away. Also, when they saw that I liled butterscotch lollipops they almost completely stopped putting them out as samples hilariously enough. Probably changed since I left.
Eventually, the experience deteroriated to such a degree that I felt a sort of contempt whenever I went there that ultimately drove me out.
I went there one more time with my friends and I felt the chilly reception almost immediately. My friends got the impression that I was banned because of that. Which in a sense, I guess I was.
Ultimately, my friends vowed to never come here again after they got chastised for not telling the waitress to split the bill. Personally, I would've reversed my friend's ruling as it prevents freeloading but after the experiences I had in this diner, it was too convenient of an outcome for me to argue against it.
In the end, this is a decent diner that has that nice, quiet and sudued feel but the staff will do everything in their power to ruin it and make sure you don't come more than once or else you'll be pestered into calling them before you go...
Read moreMy brother threw a birthday diner for my niece this evening and everything was phenomenal. What some people may not realize is that this diner has a private party room which can be used for intimate celebrations. Although we only had a party of 14, it can definitely hold a few more people. We were greeted by the owner and manager who were both so personable and professional. The staff had decorated the room for the party and even left a cute birthday sash on my niece’s chair. Our server and back waiter were both extremely attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and that our glasses were always filled. Last but not least, the food was delicious. Huge portions and great quality. They truly went above and beyond to make our event perfect. With so much attention to detail, you really can’t go wrong hosting your next get together here. Thank you so much for the outstanding service and the...
Read moreI only gave one star because the only thing hot was my buffalo wings and coffee I was just there and they were installing a soda machine I believe and they where grinding metal and cutting wood while customers where trying to eat graduation day was today and a lot of people where present waitress said she would speak to the manager about the cold food and to no avail then when I went to pay I told the person that wa at the register that the food was cold and the noise was ridiculous they should have done that during non working hours. I didn’t get up and leave before the food arrived because I had ordered already and to top it off no water was offered during our meal just coffee and soda any other place would give you water as soon as you arrive definitely would not go back. I gave it a chance because I know mikes diner is good but not this one. I would have preferred ihop next door but it...
