Went to Nectar diner on Madison. Looked like a cute, quick, simple diner so I thought it would be a safe bet for my kids. I didn’t look at the prices first- big mistake. Food was terrible. The chicken quesadillas was filled with too much onions and peppers and needed salt, the Caesar salad was awful and had no flavor so my son didn’t eat it. The chicken tenders looked like thick worms they were spongy and my other son didn’t eat that either. The cheeseburger was thick and had no flavor and my daughter didn’t eat it. The French onion soup had no salt which is ironic since the cheese is supposed to have salt, but the cheese had no flavor. For all of these entrées that we got, the best thing was the grilled cheese. And it cost $220. This place’s food was awful I don’t even know how it’s still here. Thought we were going into a diner type place, left there spending a fortune and not satisfied. So basically we ordered a mozzarella sticks, grilled cheese(w/out fries), Caesar salad(no chicken) chicken quesadillas, a cheeseburger, chicken tenders and fries and a French onion soup, all for $220. I was so shocked and disappointed that I had to leave a review. $38 for chicken tenders and fries folks.

After a long day of walking and touring my wife and I sought relief from the cold in this cozy cafe. We're so glad we did. We were only there for an afternoon snack with french fries, coffee and a sweet, but we were given good service. The fries were hot and fresh, the coffee was rich and flavorful, and the dessert was out of this world! I will add that there was a customer that the wait staff and manager/owner weren't happy with. She sat alone, ordered just a coffee and then talked on her phone. The waitress came by and asked if she wanted anything else, but she said she was still thinking. Then a man came over (manager?), peered over her shoulder and asked the same question. This time she said she didn't want anything else. Shortly after a different man (owner?) came over and asked the same question (obviously perturbed). When she told him she only wanted the coffee he walked off mumbling something in a foreign language. He then, fairly loudly, told the waitress to take the woman the bill. Not a good sight, and apart from this experience I would've given 5 stars.

Perhaps they get all the tourists from the Met. The food was okayish. The problem is: 1. They CHARGE you to use a card, and when you ask, they point you to a sign in the window. So of course, you must read every sign outside a restaurant, NOT at the menu, which DOES NOT mention the extra charge. 2. When you hand over the card, the server does NOT mention the extra charge. 3. The bill is handwritten, 15% service charge is already added, and the total is incorrect. 4. No POS machine -- they take the card away where you cant see it. 5. When you ask for the bill, you are told you cant get it. 6. When you insist, they look through at least 30 bills shoved in the crevice between the cash register and the wall. 7. When the bill is found, you are again told you can see it, but not take it. 8. When you still insist, you are told you can get a copy. 9. You wait for a copy, which you eventually get. A process most tourists tired from the museum are not going to follow ... But seriously, a handwritten bill? And the card out of sight? Not acceptable in these times.

A beautiful Autumn in NYC prompted me to try this diner I have walked passed many times. I’ve always enjoyed seeing families, elderly couples and solo customers enjoying this cute corner spot that is just a hop skip and jump away from the MET. I sat outside and enjoyed listening to others’ conversations as I waited to give my order. I ordered the Lumberjack; which consisted of pancakes, two eggs and a choice of bacon, sausage and some other meat I can’t remember. My food came rather quickly, which was a nice surprise because it’s a Sunday at a time where Brunch in the city is at its peak. My sunny side up eggs were cooked perfectly, I love them to be very runny and snot-like, doused in Cholula and then I dip the pancakes in for the kill! No need for butter or syrup! It’s a whole lotta YUM! Their pancakes were fluffy and the bottom had a very nice crisp. Here’s the unappetizing part and why this is a one and done diner for me: While I waited for the waiter to run my card I just wanted to enjoy myself and the atmosphere and let my food digest. Sun in NYC is hard to come by when Autumn comes around and I like to take advantage of not only being outside but dining outside as well. I hadn’t signed my check less than two minutes and a gentlemen, whom was either the owner or the manager approached my table and asked me to leave. He said he needed my table. There wasn’t a line of people waiting and there was plenty of unoccupied seating around me. It is important to note-even though I was a party of 1 the tables are small so I was in no way taking up a 4 top; you can fit two people possibly three but that’s if you don’t order anything to drink! HAHA. In all seriousness, I’m also highly aware and sensitive if people are waiting for a table and I’ll leave the table quickly so they can enjoy. I live in the city, I get it. I made a noise like uh, put my coat on and left. As I headed toward the MET and decided I won’t be wanting a seat at any of their tables because even though the food was good the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s important for an establishment to be sensitive to how the customer will feel from the restaurant experience and unfortunately the feeling coming away was...

My girl and I were in Central Park, she was craving some Greek food and found this place on her map. Just a few blocks away from The Met, I knew this place would be pretty expensive but I didn't want to make her walk thirty blocks while hungry to get a Greek meal for half the price.

The menu featured a variety of items from classic diner food for like $20 to more fancy items like steaks for $40. The classic Greek food items were somewhere in between, in the $25-35 range. There was plenty of outdoor seating surrounded by plexiglass with a good amount of indoor seating as well. My vaccine card was checked after entry. The restaurant also had a single bathroom accommodating one occupant at a time, which either had a line or was vacant for minutes at a time. I guess everyone needs to use the bathroom at the same time.

Anyway, we ordered two gyros, which was unlike the gyros I was used to from eating at halal carts. It was four pieces of gyro meat on top of a pita bread (and it also came with fries and a salad). The portion size was large enough that I was feeling full and my girl couldn't finish everything on her plate. Taste-wise, very average. For $27 (with tax our two gyros came out to be $60.76), I was expecting an exceptional meal and the gyro was a letdown. Judging by my two stars, you could tell it was clearly not worth it.

However, as we began walking back to Central Park I felt the food in my stomach. It was pushing against the walls. I asked my girl and at first she was saying she was just "stuffed" but later began to say the food was sitting in her stomach "like a lead ball", which described how I felt if that ball had jagged corners. For a $30 food item, I expected to be comforted and invigorated, but instead I felt as if I had just eaten a portion of cold McDonald's french fries. The feeling did not go away for over an hour. The feeling of the food in my stomach was almost worse than the hunger I went in with. Only reason it was not worse was because I knew it brought me closer to my calorie goal for the day.

In summary, I recommend this place to people who love fast food presented in a decent fashion and have the desire to overspend by...

I had one of the most blatantly racist experiences of my life here. I walked into the restaurant and was seated by a nice man (he is the only reason that I gave the service two starts instead of one). For context, I was the only black customer in the establishment. When i first sat down, i noticed that the white ladies who worked there were giving me nasty looks from across the restaurant. Immediately, i got the feeling that i was not wanted there. I even attempted to smile at them but their faces remained the same. My server (the nice man) came to take my order (I ordered a bagel and a latte for about $11). The ladies were still starting at me, and after a few minutes my food was ready. One of the ladies (the one who was staring the hardest) brought me my meal and I said “hi” with a smile and “thank you so much.” She refused to smile back, she refused to speak to me, she wouldn’t even look at me. I am not even exaggerating when I say that she honestly looked disgusted. the staff had foreign accents so i assumed that maybe she just couldn’t speak English. After dropping off my food, she proceeded to walk over to a white man, and in the friendliest way possible, speaking the clearest English, she greeted him and took his order. I watched her make small talk with other white customers while i was there. Meanwhile, this lady refused to even look me in my eyes, much less smile or speak. I was genuinely shocked. Not that it should matter, but I am a woman, 21 years old, 5’7 and 110 pounds. I was not doing anything “threatening” or “suspicious” in any way. If i tried to leave without paying, it would have been incredibly easy for them to stop me because of my size. My reason for providing this context is to explain that all i did to make this woman dislike me was simply exist. Despite my terrible experience, I tipped my server $5 on an $11 bill. I would not recommend this place if you are black, or to anyone at all. If you can’t politely service ALL of your customers, you are providing...
