I was booked in at the Franklin for a week in April this year. I had stayed there before and had a room that was just about acceptable in size, but the location suits us and we decided to stay there again. As most Franklin reviews say, the staff are very welcoming and helpful but one must know, this is a hotel with rooms only. There is no catering at all beyond a coffee machine in the entrance. Neither is there a doorman or anyone to assist carrying heavy suitcases up the narrow stairs to the entrance.|To say the room we were allocated was small was an understatement. The bed, not that big, was against one wall and only left a narrow passage on the other side with an equally narrow space between the end of the bed and the window in front. No space at all for bedside tables. Instead of a cupboard, there is a small rail about 5 inches long with one end in the wall and the other attached to a partition. No drawers. You must live out of your suitcase but there’s no space to put it. The bathroom is so small it could only accommodate a narrow shower cubicle and a toilet. The wash basin is in the bedroom. There’s nowhere to put your vanity kit in the bathroom or near the wash basin in the bedroom. In another review someone mentions that the rooms are small, but you’d have to pay over $600 a night for more space. Well, my quote for two of the nights was $641.54 plus tax and other charges. If IHG can get a price like that, for a postage-stamp sized room, good luck to them. |My wife and I couldn’t spend a week in such a cramped space lacking entirely in facilities. As the hotel was full, we couldn’t switch to a larger room, so we checked out immediately and were charged for 1 night. That’s fair enough, except when I asked to pay or part pay with my IHG points acquired on a previous visit, I was told that in order to use the points, the room must be booked via the rewards web site. So much for being able to use IHG points. They’re obviously not worth the paper they’re written on unless you know the secret of how to make a booking if you wish to use them as payment or part payment.|To sum up, the Franklin is in a good position in the upper east side and the staff are great but as for the room we were allocated, it wasn’t fit for anything more than putting your feet up for a few hours and definitely nothing more than that. I won’t be staying there again! It hasn’t done much for my faith in the IHG group either or their...
Read moreI have 3 sustains and 3 improvements. Sustains- A very professional and courteous staff. Although a busy area there were two parking garages directly beside and across the business. Excellent chocolate treats upon check in.
Improvements- The room had an odor of a gymnasium locker room. If you turn the AC off it is definitely very pronounced. Although there was a vent in the bathroom, there was no way to draw out the moisture/steam when taking a shower. Therefore causing the room to have that gymnasium odor. The bathtub did not drain so well therefore you are standing in water. I found to alleviate SOME of the water build-up you have to cut the shower head on immediately and adjust temperature of water from there and not from main water spout. The business do coordinate for parking but you have to pay the parking attendant. If you have an oversized vehicle you will have to pay an extra $15 a day. I didn't know that until I got there. The hotel did work with us in a special way on pricing for the room due to that we did not know about the additional oversized vehicle fee. The rooms are small but that is to be expected in a city area. Overall I would stay here again but I think the price is a little high for some of the things you must have to deal with it. There is no continental breakfast. But they do off of your first expresso free and additional have to be paid for. They do offer bottled water and they are very fast at towel requests. If you do decide to stay here I would definitely call an ask questions, but I feel for availability, those improvements are minor and easy to deal with. Cost of living in the area is definitely higher than my hometown. So be sure you have funds to cover any recreational activities. Also if you are driving be prepared for a big traffic event. We planned our route to avoid the traffic and it worked fine. We found leaving early in the morning for check out would eliminate a lot of headache traffic.
For the 3 receptionist we met during our stay, I have to say they are phenomenal employees. They were very professional and eager to help you to the best of their ability. Because of their professionalism I can easily overlook the minor Improvement and stay there again just because of...
Read moreMy husband and I recently enjoyed a delightful stay at the Franklin Hotel during an unexpected last-minute trip to New York City. Although our usual accommodations were fully booked, we were thrilled to discover the Franklin, which exceeded our expectations in every way.
From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in the hotel's distinctive charm and exceptional service. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring our comfort throughout our stay. The hotel's beverage bar was cozy and our barista style hot chocolate was instagram perfect in the front window as snow fell, made us feel right at home.
Our room was cozy yet sophisticated, providing all the modern amenities one could wish for. After a day of exploring the city, it was a treat to return to such a comfortable oasis where every detail was considered with care. Chocolates were given and they were good. I preferred the milk chocolate.
The hotel's location on the Upper East Side is truly a highlight. We found it to be conveniently situated near public transit, making our city adventures seamless and stress-free. Additionally, the proximity to cultural landmarks, exquisite dining options, and charming boutiques added to our enjoyment.
The Franklin Hotel has undoubtedly earned a spot on our list of go-to accommodations in NYC. It offers the same level of charm and service we expect from our favorite places, and we can't wait to return. Whether you're visiting the city for pleasure or business, I highly recommend making the Franklin Hotel your base. It's a hidden gem that promises an...
