Shokunin — Restaurant in New York

PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE!!! Avoid this place! They have serious hygiene problems! There are mosquitoes flying around the windows right next the food! They don't change the tongue for the raw meat and cooked meat. If you insist to go there, here are the things you need to be aware of: The service is absolutely terrible! They either speak or mumble softly or don't speak English at all. Most importantly, they all have attitudes. It is good the staffs all wear gloves. However, they use the same pair of glove the entire day. They don't change gloves after they clean up the table, handle cash, or ,god know what other duties. Essentially, they "help " you to cook your foods with those gloves. Sushi is served on a wood platter which are also used to serve raw seafood that needed be THOROUGHLY cooked. Given the poor hygiene of this place, I doubt the wood platters would be properly cleaned. It is a chaotic place and they are apparently shot handed. Your orders would be either taking forever to get here or all rushing to you at once. I would also be skeptical if they would have a designated personnel and station to handle sushi that is separated from other raw foods. Lastly, good luck. The closest ER is just 11 blocks away in case anything happen.

If there's a option for 0 star, I would give it to this restaurant!

他们的卫生十分的差，无论是食物还是环境。服务生烤肉的时候，用同一个夹子夹生的肉和熟的肉。我们是坐靠近窗的位置，窗边那里有超多的虫子在飞来飞去。（看图）

食物上来之后就放在虫子的旁边！服务生也不换手套，刚拿完客人的账单和钱，转身又继续用同一副手套帮别的客人烧东西吃。

装sushi的盘子和装生鱿鱼的盘子是同一类型的盘子，他们的卫生情况这样，我也很难相信他们不会把鱿鱼盘子洗干净然后再拿去端sushi给客人吃。

服务态度非常恶劣。并不是一个人从头到尾服务一张桌子。我们大概吃了一个半小时，就换了3个服务生serve我们。更搞笑的是，服务生A帮我们把茄子放下去烤之后转头走了，服务生B就过来说：“这个熟了我帮你们打开吧。” 我告诉她：“我们刚放下去。” 服务生B说：“这个不用烤这么久的，很快就熟了。” 我想说的是，这茄子我们刚放下去5秒钟。。。。

这家店是烧烤和寿司自助，每个人加税大概40刀。反正我们吃完了之后都没饱。...

What was suppose to be an enjoyable dinner to celebrate my younger son’s birthday turned out to be something totally different.

The meal was not bad, but also not spectacular either. I was expecting better especially for the price we paid.

An hour into our dinner my older son started to not feel well and we decided to eat quickly and finish up and head home. As we were getting into our car, my stomach started to feel strange too.

The food was cooked thru, but something was off as my 2 boys and I had a bad case of diarrhea when we got home. My older son had it worse. He started coughing and breaking out in a bad rash & started itching. He is allergic to peanut and something we ordered may have contained peanut in the food or some cross contamination occurred.

At around 10:30pm he started to vomit and his rash became worse and worse. Breaking out along his arms, stomach, back …. We rushed to Maimonides emergency room and was given medication and an epi shot. Thankfully his coughing stopped and rash receded. We were discharged from the emergency room around 4:35am. Home around 5:08am.

Our bad for not double checking that the food we ordered does not have any peanut in it ( but what we ordered we would not have expected peanut anyway ). My stomach still not feeling well as I have hit the toilet again this morning.

Not the memories I wanted on my son’s 14th birthday, but certainly one we won’t forget.

My first and only Japanese BBQ experience, and I've been here twice in 4 months! First time I went was in Jan 2021, still during the winter covid lockdown. They had these super cute individual huts decked with a grill in the center of the table, 2 heat lamps, and very ample ventilation in the ceiling. The second visit was in mid-April and indoor dining has been expanded and we got seated in one of the inside booths. Wow. Just, WOW!

Despite how busy they were (reservations HIGHLY recommended), the staff were super attentive and very sensitive and accommodating for one member in our party with soy and sugar dietary sensitivities. Everything that came to the table was, I KID YOU NOT, top notch quality. Everything was just so freakin delicious! I cannot wait to come back here!

Very reasonably priced, all-you-can-eat buffet style, but it's brought table-side. Huge, and I mean, HUGE menu of items to select from, with a few that have some premium add-on costs. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Will definitely be back here again, and I'm telling everyone I know about it.

Update: have been a repeat customer now, come here every few months. They're consistently good, reasonably priced, great service. Was here for a birthday dinner, and they accommodated some dietary restrictions very well and ample kid options. Come here, great for a date, and especially good for a group. I also noticed a cute private room available as well for...
