Tom’s Coney Island has a lot of potential, but our recent visit left us with mixed feelings. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, we waited around 30 minutes before anyone came to take our order. Unfortunately, it seemed the waitresses were more engaged in a personal conversation with a friend than attending to customers, which was disappointing and definitely impacted our overall experience. Once we finally got our order in, the food was decent but not amazing. We tried the sweet potatoes — the cheese on top added a nice touch, but the dish overall could use some fine-tuning in flavor and presentation. The real letdown was the piña colada, which was underwhelming and definitely in need of serious improvement; it lacked the balance and creaminess you’d expect from such a classic drink. On the bright side, the atmosphere was one of the highlights. The location offers a pleasant view, which made the experience a bit more enjoyable despite the service hiccups. It’s a relaxing spot that could be great with more attentive staff and quicker service. As for the pricing, it wasn’t too bad — fair for the type of place it is. You're not breaking the bank here, but you’re also not getting top-tier quality or service. In summary, Tom’s Coney Island scores a 3.5 out of 5 for us. The food gets a 3, the service also a 3, and the atmosphere a stronger 4 thanks to the scenic view. With some improvements in customer service and a few tweaks to the menu, this place could become a solid local favorite.

Hey friends! This review is about sustainability only. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. So as a waterfront business, I wonder how you could help customers create less trash when coming in for a beer or a bite. Clearly, based on the dish bins you have out, and the real reusable dishes within them, you have some sort of dish dishwashing infrastructure available in the house. For this, I wonder if you could transition beers into real reusable cups, as you do soda and water (the sturdy blue Pepsi cups). It feels a shame to pour a delicious beer into a trashy flimsy plastic cup that will go to the landfill, incinerator, or ocean. Thank you for considering how to help your customers better respect the ocean on which this business sits. We want options to do better by this planet, and we can’t afford to wait longer to solve the plastic pollution crisis that our world faces.

Truly awful. My expectations are low for boardwalk food as is, and this was worse. I ordered at the window and then went to sit down and got stopped by a full uniformed security guard telling me that I couldn’t sit down because I had ordered from the to go window. Mind you, this was outdoor seating right outside of the window that I had ordered. So, I was annoyed. But I chocked it up to user error, despite me using very reasonable judgment. He said something dumb like, “you wouldn’t go to a McDonald’s drive-through and then go to eat inside, would you?” Anyway, that was just irksome. But worse than that, the hotdogs were inedible. The buns were completely dried out, the hotdogs were pork and had holes in them??? The casing was hard to chew through. Just not good. Would not recommend.

Terrible experience.

The order - First try
Came in, sat at the bar, a guy of about 20 is behind the bar looking at his cell, I’ll call him the boy, I waited quietly for about 3 minutes, then the girl from the to-go section came around behind the bar and discreetly “woke up” the boy. She wanted to take my order but the boy interfered and said that I had to order by the to go section and then come around to the bar. I was already uncomfortable, but I followed his direction.

The order - Second try
The to go window had two cashiers, the girl was still by the bar, the second cashier guarding by a second boy, and yes you guessed, submerged in his phone. The same young girl came back from the bar and took my order using the second cashier.

The service at the table
After ordering a cheeseburger, I came back by the bar and sat at a table right in front of the bar. The first and second boys went back to their cell phone. The place was almost empty, so probably it was too boring. After ten minutes, the girl from the to go section came by the bar and again discreetly talked to the boy, he “woke up” again, went to the kitchen and brought my cheeseburger, extra cold.

The food
It was a bun with a burger and cheese. Nothing else. I guess I can’t complaint, it was exactly, quite literally what I ordered. Why would I expect lettuce, tomatoes or fries? In any case, it tasted like cardboard.

Overall rating
 terrible.

On the other hand I am going to take some responsibility here as well. This took place on Saturday May 10th at around 4p. The boardwalk was full. Next door to this terrible place is Nathan’s and Ruby’s. Both places were full and loud. The only reason I considered Tom’s burger is because I wanted some quiet. No I...

Walked in with friends ,waited at the door for a few minutes until we asked if we can be seated. After being seated we waiting a while and nobody came up to us, so we had to ask for menues. After a few minutes of scanning the menu we all knew what we wanted. Yet again we waited and waited for somebody to acknowledge us, but nothing, we had to wave somebody down again. After they took our food order (and had been seated for a while) we realized we didn't have have table settings (no forks knives napkins). You guessed it folks we had to ask somebody for table settings. We were seated near the kitchen and knowing that the place was very empty (4-5 others tables at most besides us) we saw our food order at the window, it sat there for a good 5 minutes before anyone checked the window. All in all this place is pretty much self service with mediocre food no thrills here. Maybe I don't have patients but for a place that was rather empty, you'd think we could at least be greeted at the door, or given menues or even supplied with table settings. Will not be returning. Do...
