Luna Park – Coney Island’s Classic Fun with a Few Caveats
📍 Location: Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY ⭐ Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
If you're looking for a full day of excitement with the family, Luna Park at Coney Island delivers exactly that—energy, nostalgia, and lots of laughs. I recently visited with my wife and child, and we had an absolute blast. It’s a place where the sights, sounds, and smells of a classic amusement park come alive, and even with a few drawbacks, it’s an experience worth having.
🎡 Overall Experience Luna Park has something for everyone—whether you're a thrill-seeker or just looking for laid-back fun with the kids. From iconic rides like the Cyclone and Thunderbolt, to kid-friendly attractions and midway games, there’s no shortage of entertainment.
My wife and kid had an amazing time. We spent hours riding, playing games, and enjoying the boardwalk vibe. The energy is contagious, and the park does a great job of maintaining a festive, clean, and family-friendly atmosphere.
🎯 Games & Attractions The carnival-style games are colorful and tempting, but as with most amusement parks, they’re not always in your favor. Some definitely felt rigged, especially the classic “toss” or “ring” games, and the prices per play can add up quickly. That said, we did manage to win a few prizes, and it added to the fun—especially seeing the excitement on our kid’s face.
The rides themselves are thrilling and well-maintained. Safety seemed like a top priority, and the staff managing the rides were professional and helpful.
💵 Pricing This is where Luna Park loses a few points. The games and food are definitely on the pricey side, and the cost of parking is a real issue—especially on weekends, when prices seem to nearly double. It can be frustrating trying to find a spot nearby, only to be met with high rates and long walks.
💡 Tip: If you're planning a visit, consider taking public transportation. It's much less stressful, and you avoid the parking price surge.
🚗 Parking Woes Parking is limited, expensive, and not very well organized. On weekends, expect to pay premium prices if you can even find a spot. It’s one of the few downsides to an otherwise joyful outing.
🍦 Food Options Classic park food—hot dogs, funnel cake, pretzels, and cotton candy—are all there. Prices are theme-park standard, but the quality is decent, and there's enough variety to keep everyone satisfied.
✅ Highlights Iconic and vibrant amusement park experience Great variety of rides for all ages Fun, energetic atmosphere Clean and safe environment Good for families, couples, and groups ❌ Considerations Games can be overpriced and feel rigged Parking is difficult and expensive (especially weekends) Some attractions/games don't offer great value for money Final Verdict: Despite the high prices and parking hassle, Luna Park is still a Brooklyn classic that delivers an unforgettable day of fun. Seeing my wife and kid enjoying themselves made the trip 100% worth it. Just be prepared for the expense, and if you can, take the train—it’ll make your...

We visited on a slightly cooler day and when one the main trains that take you there (Q) wasn’t running to the nearby station, so there were no crowds and we basically didn’t have to wait to ride any attraction (except for the karting racing course, even though the line wasn’t long and a lot of people ride at the same time, it is a “slow process,” so be patient for this one). The karting track could benefit from re-painting the “items” that you should either try to collect or avoid, as it was almost indiscernible.
Before visiting the park, I used to think that there weren’t that many attractions, but they have a decent selection.
If you love adrenaline, here are some thrilling experiences you must try:
Zenobio, Thunderbolt, Cyclone, Steeplechase, Luna 360, Electro Spin and the Atlantic Aviator.
There were some attractions not included with the 100$* bracelet, as the Wonder Wheel.
*If you buy your ticket online using their website, you pay 79$ instead of 99$ when buying at the counter in person.
My partner and I spent around 4 hours and almost got to do all of the attractions we wanted.
A final note is that there is a disjointed experience regarding the “lockers” situation. There are plenty of rides where they have free storage for your belongings, but there are many others where they have 2$ lockers, and I believe you have to pay with a card or tap to pay device.
Most of the workers are very nice, so please be kind to them! Remember that while you are there to have a great time, they are simply doing their job, so don’t give them a hard time if they have the enforce rules they...
Read moreI advise you not to go there: they are simply thieves!?!
Here's the story: My glasses fell out of my nose during the ride where we lay on our stomachs. Indeed the merry-go-round makes violent jolts. During a loop and a big jolt, my glasses fall directly into the gutter of the roof of the main building. We can see the branch overtaking with my husband, but as it is more than 4 meters high, they are inaccessible! I am told to go and complain to the "Guest house", and that I will be called back to pick them up either the next day or the day after, because they will be caught by maintenance technicians. I specify that I am on vacation and will return to Europe within 4 days, and that at worst someone will be able to pick them up for me... So since they don't call me back after 2 days, I send them an e-mail, where I receive this response:
"Hi A-----, Thank you for contacting Luna Park in Coney Island. I'm sorry to hear you lost your items on one of our rides! Now that we know exactly where to look, I will let our maintenance staff know tonight and they should retrieve it today or tomorrow. When the items are brought to Guest Services, we will be sure to give you a call! Our team thanks you for your continued patience, loyalty, and understanding. We hope to see you again soon. kind regards, Trinity Ducasse Operations Coordinator"
After this message I was never called back or even contacted by email. Worse I relaunched them and I received no response!
Really not serious, not professional, or even worse, it's theft! I also specify that I am very myopic, and that therefore my glasses are useless in the state to anyone!
Also I strongly advise against this park with...
