I spent days searching the internet for a great seafood restaurant to go to for my birthday. My search led me to Allegro. We arrived a little after 9, I had reservations. We had to wait almost an hour for a table for 8 to become free. 6 of us were there and I told the waiter that 2 were coming, so I asked if they could make the table for 8, they told me NO. After we kept pressing the issue, they made the space for us. It wasnt a hard request so I was confused as to why I was told no in the first place. Ok now it was time to order. My fiancée wanted Paella. He asked the waiter if it came lobster he said NO. I had to pull up a picture from their Instagram page to show the waiter what he wanted. He then goes "Oooooh. Yes we have that" That was the second red flag. We also had to ask for bread and water. The bread was cold and he brought the water out with 2 glasses. Remember there are 8 of us there! At this time I was starting to get upset! I wondered if anyone else got the same treatment we were getting. I ordered a 32oz tbone steak. I had to ask for a knife to cut it with. These things should go without saying. Its not like this business just opened! Its now 11:30 and I remembered seeing that happy hour starts at that time on Friday and Saturday. We asked the same waiter about it and he told us NO. Everything was NO for us. We showed him the sign on the happy hour menu and he just laughed. I didn't find anything funny about it! We finally got the manager involved and he tried to help the situation but even he accused our table of ordering an extra tbone steak. He said the waiter but 3 in our order when it was only 2! Then said he didnt want to argue with us! I have never experienced such horrible service in my life. I think its safe to say that I will never return at Allegro ever again! Happy...
Read moremy wife and I were leaving the Newark airport and were looking for someplace close-by to eat. me being originally from Boston (love my good seafood) and now living in AZ (desperately need some good seafood) wanted to find a good seafood restaurant in the area. Allegro's came up on Google and had some good reviews, so we figured that we'd try it.
OMG! what an awesome experience. the drive was just a short bit off the highway through some small neighborhood streets to get there. there were a number of other small intimate looking restaurants randomly located amongst the tightly built homes in the neighborhood, which we thought was a good omen. we were also pleasantly surprised to see that it had its own parking lot so that we didn't have to drive all over looking for a place to park.
my wife had the grilled cod and it was so large that she had to share it with me, which is good because I was going to probably just steal some if she hadn't offered. not only was it cooked perfectly, but it rivaled the taste and freshness of any fresh cod that I've ever had in Boston (which is saying alot). I had the swordfish which was also very good. both dishes came with potatoes and mixed veggies that were cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of flavor and crispness. the desert menu was unexpectedly lengthy and filled with WAY too many awesome selections. we ended up with a limoncello cheese cake, a strawberry crepe and a couple port wine after dinner drinks. the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food.
props and thanks very much to Mauricio for doing a great job taking care of us during our meal.
bottom line, if you want an outstanding seafood dinner at a reasonable price, give this place a try. I think that...
Read moreHmm, where do I begin? My friend and I were bored last Friday(she works from home and I was off for Spring break). We googled a few spots and decided to head to this place. First Impression: We walked in, there's a sign saying to wait to be seated, so we obliged. After standing outside, while others went in, for about 10 mins without anyone coming to us, we decided to go in as well. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young man who pleasantly welcomed us and asked where would we like to be seated. We chose outside, since I am Still afraid of being closed up with people.
Inside: While seated, by another very kind gentleman, he asked if we wanted a drink and we asked for the menu. A rather rude and very uncouth tall guy , also a worker, brought us a basket with bread and no cutlery...my friend and I kept exchanging confused glances since he waa busy attending to other guest who were seated long after we were. I wasn't born or raised in the USA, so racism is not something I am accustomed to...and truth be told it will Never define me. To add insult to injury, this same rude waiter kept walking behind me, banging on my chair to get to his preferred customers, and never once looked my way or offered anything apology. I am so sorry I never asked for his name, so put him on blast.
The food and Prices: The food was OK, the mash potatoes and Salmon tasted good. I think it's a tad bit overpriced, but I am duly aware of inflation and rises in the cost of everything, so I'm not at all upset.
Future plan: I am not sure if I'll ever visit this place again or even recommend it to others.
PS. One bad employee can indeed...
