Mr. Burgandy's Breakfast Luncheonette — Restaurant in Newark

Mr. Burgundy’s is amazing! Let’s talk about the overall experience and the service! The very first time I walked into the restaurant, they welcome you so warmly. The woman at the counter was so sweet. I come from a close knit family and cooking is what brings us together. I immediately felt like I was sitting in my Grandma’s kitchen amongst my family. Very “homey” atmosphere. Now the food. It was delicious! I tried a little of everything because I was bringing food home for my family. Salmon cakes, grits, eggs, French toast, BEEF BACON! Everything was good! The other day I ordered from Mr. burgundy’s via Grubhub. I was unable to go pick the food up myself. I called the restaurant to add my sides because the app wouldn’t let me do it. Shortly after, Grubhub cancelled my order. I’m not surprised because I truly despise Grubhub, but I was desperate. They didn’t even notify the restaurant that they cancelled the order smh. So I called them. The woman told me that my food was already made, but I had no way of getting there. Nevertheless, the cook himself got in his car and brought my food to me. That’s the service I’m referring to. They go over and beyond to make your overall experience a good one. So I read a review somewhere on the internet where someone said this place was a bit of a hole in the wall, kind of a rough spot, and had some fantastic food. So like...my kind of place. I was able to park right out front (probably illegally, It was definitely a bus stop) and I ordered a breakfast sandwich to go.

The people working were all very helpful and friendly. I came here specifically to try the one item out so I had a good idea of what I was getting already. They use Beef Bacon here, and I knew regardless of what I got, that needed to be a part of the meal.

Since I was in NJ I knew they'd have good Kaiser rolls, so I went with a beef bacon egg and cheese. It was a $6 sandwich and it was worth every penny. The beef bacon was salty and savory with a lot of nice fat marbling but was cooked hard so it wasn't very chewy. Lots of cheese and some scrambled egg with salt and pepper rounded out a really nice breakfast sandwich.

When I say I was SO pleased with my visit, I mean my experience EXCEEDED my expectations! The staff was ever so friendly! And welcoming! The food was SOOOO good! Ms Sheila’s GRITS!!! We’re some of the best I’ve ever had! I was thinking about them grits days after returning home to DC!

I wish I asked the gentleman’s name but he made me feel like I wanted to name him Uncle Frank! LOL! But I really appreciate for answering the phone and telling us that they would be waiting for us although we would be arriving JUST before their closing time!

And to put a cherry on top we met Ice Cole, a famous boxer!
